An opportunity has arisen at Cambridgeshire County Council for someone looking to get into the flood risk management sector.

We are looking for a Sustainable Drainage (SuDS) & Flood Risk Officer to join the friendly and diverse Flood Risk Team which is part of the Lead Local Flood Authority (LLFA). The team works with partners to investigate and deliver innovative local flood risk management projects across Cambridgeshire, improve the water environment and provide technical engineering-based advice on surface water management for new developments.

What will you be doing?
The role will give you the opportunity to get involved in a wide range of work. Primarily you will be:

- Providing advice in relation to surface water management for new developments as part of the LLFA’s role as a statutory consultee to planning
- Work closely with key stakeholders across Cambridgeshire to reduce flood risk throughout the County

There will also be opportunities to get involved in:

- Assisting with the investigation of flood incidents leading to the development and delivery of flood risk management projects
- Working alongside Senior Officers with local communities to help them prepare for and respond to flooding
- Utilising the team’s GIS and database systems to manage flood asset and incident data

About you
To be successful in this role, we are looking for someone who ideally:

- Uses initiative to form decisions and can work independently with little supervision
- Is organised and able to manage workloads to meet deadlines whilst being part of a dynamic and busy team
- Has the ability to communicate complex information clearly and confidently to a wide range of audiences
- Is computer literate with experience of using GIS systems
- Has knowledge and understanding of flood risk management
