We want to boost school attendance back to levels pre pandemic. That’s a big challenge. To support this work we will be piloting for a year strategic meetings with schools to support them in their work to improve attendance.

We are looking to employ an experienced Education Welfare Officer or team leader or school attendance manager to implement our targeted support meetings with schools to comply with our duties as a Local Authority under Working Together to Improve Attendance. This is an exciting opportunity to design and shape a new service, lead meetings with schools and a wide range of agencies and make a real difference to children’s lives.

Main Duties will include:

- Improving attendance across schools in Merton giving advice and guidance at a senior level, leading schools with policy development as well as case advice including reducing persistent absence (PA) and severe absence (SA).
- Leading targeted support meetings with schools, LA colleagues and other agencies to identify pupils and cohorts at risk of poor attendance and agreeing **target** actions and plans to support pupils and ensure their right to education.
- Improve access to Early Help getting families and pupils the right help, in the right place at the right time, including developing a knowledge of local services and signposting and working with our emerging hub programme.
- Thinking and acting strategically, solving problems and making decisions to break down barriers across agencies that prevent or impact on the pupil being able to attend an educational setting.
- Carrying out data analysis to inform targeted support meetings with schools.
