Retail Shop Supervisor

**Background**
We are a fast-paced heritage retail business. We have a wide customer base made up of UK and international students; visiting tourists from across the world; and local visitors from across Scotland. You’ll help us maximise all charity income opportunities through excellent customer service, product knowledge and taking a pride in everything we do.

**What we’d like you to do**
Your priority every day is to lead the customer facing team, enabling each team member to give world class service - you will lead by example, using your own natural ability to engage with people and help them select products and services.
Teamwork: this is at the heart of everything you do when you are supervising the service and tasks in both shop locations. We need you to be responsible and proactive, and to keep everyone around you active.
Welcome and mentor new colleagues as they start with us, ensuring they receive a detailed walk through our handbook, followed by all the training needed to grow in confidence and capability.
You will provide daily support for the Retail Shop and Operations manager, working closely with them to ensure a smooth operation which delivers on accuracy and pace. Over time, you will develop the skills to work with our other shop supervisor in deputising for the RSOM for days off or holidays.
You will work closely with the retail leadership team and back-office colleagues to deliver our targets; this part of your role will evolve over time to be the bridging relationship, so our customer experience is driven from back to front of house from a one team approach to everything we do.
Work with our till and computer systems, processing sales.
Work with our team to ensure perpetually high levels of accuracy are maintained for our stock file.

The effectiveness of our team in how they give great service and achieve tasks.
Help the RSOM to create a team who can work in all our locations, on any task - a total retail team.
Over time you will learn about and help co-ordinate our staffing resource, so our daily rotas have all our colleagues working when customers need them to be there. This will include working with the RSOM to deliver a Service Level Agreement (SLA) for our shop team which gives 4 weeks advance notice of everyone’s individual weekly shifts.
Be there as a support and link between colleagues and the RSOM and Head of Retail to ensure we are facilitating the booking of holidays to our agreed “milestone %’s booked” for the year as it progresses.

The Shop supervisor role plays a vital part in ensuring we are engaging as a team, always ready to welcome every customer and deliver every task regardless of the daily obstacles put in our path by life and work.
To actively drive-up selling opportunities through strong product knowledge and your friendly customer service.
Working with the team to ensure high standards of display and merchandising.
Cash reconciliation duties including end of day and administration tasks.
Your own development and learning, guided in partnership with the retail leadership team and your team colleagues.
Have a flexible approach to working hours and days including working weekend and Bank Holidays as appropriate.
Always being available for flexible working during our busy graduation fortnights (June/ July & November/ December) and our 3 weeks of Freshers’ activity.
To work across our different campus locations when necessary, supporting the wider retail offer.
