**Job summary**:
We are seeking an experienced individual to work alongside the Chief Executive Officer (CEO) and Senior Leadership Team (SLT) to lead the Cefas Management Board (CMB) office in supporting the delivery and monitoring of Cefas organisational objectives, goals and work programme. This exciting role will involve engaging with a wide range of people across Cefas and the wider Defra Group and stakeholders. The role is in Cefas’ Strategy Directorate, reporting to the Head of Strategy and Transformation and working closely with Cefas’ CEO and wider SLT.

**Job description**:
This role will be fundamental to coordinating a range of activities that will support the successful delivery of Cefas’ organisational objectives, assisting senior leaders (including non-Executive Directors) and driving the smooth running of business initiatives.
You will need experience of supporting senior leaders in decision making, developing agendas, commissioning others and analysing information to ensure strategic outcomes are achieved. You will need to enjoy working with a wide range of people, being quick to establish strong working relationships at every level of the organisation and understand the core functions of the organisation. Your insight into the organisation will provide valued feedback to senior leaders.
You will work closely with the Cefas CEO and Senior Leadership Team (SLT), supporting the delivery of Cefas organisational objectives. Convening and managing effective strategic engagement/meetings (both internally and externally) will be important, setting appropriate agendas and commissioning work as required. Working with integrity and sensitivity will also be important when supporting the CEO in responding to a variety of correspondence. The role requires resilience, an ability to prioritise activities and work with agility as situations change, ensuring that the organisation can respond quickly and decisively as needed. The post-holder will also build strong working engagement with the Cefas Management Board and manage the efficient running of Board level processes.
You will work with the Director of Strategy & Delivery and the Head of Strategy and Transformation to structure and coordinate governance arrangements with Defra - including the Delivery and Assurance Board. The post holder will lead the CMB Office, helping the team to perform their duties to the best of their ability, providing training and mentoring as required.
Your main duties and responsibilities will include, but are not limited to:
- Forward planning, working with the CEO, Deputy CEO and Cefas Management Board Office to determine the key activities that need to be scheduled over the coming year and turning these into a flexible schedule that gives colleagues in the CMB Office the room to accommodate urgent requirements and unexpected opportunities.
- Managing and organising the regular Delivery and Assurance Board meetings with Defra.
- Providing high quality written and verbal briefings, presentations and summary reports in response to requests from the CEO, Deputy CEO or CMB.
- Developing material at pace to support CEO decision making e.g. background papers, analysis.
- Researching and commissioning work for CEO from internal or external sources.
- Supporting CEO/CMB meetings, working with the meeting/Board facilitators, by putting in place a robust process for forward planning and managing the production of quality papers and presentations that fit the agenda, recording decisions and monitoring their progression.
- Working with CMB office to ensure appropriate level of office administration is in place to manage and track work, decision making and follow through, keeping a multitude of tasks progressing.
- Lead the CMB Office to support the planning and smooth running of senior visits to Cefas.
- Build strong relationships with senior leaders across Cefas (including non-Executive Directors) and the wider Defra Group.
- Provide a point of liaison between staff, SLT and CMB.
- Responding at pace to commissions and priority pieces of work issued by the CEO, Director of Strategy & Delivery and Head of Strategy and Transformation
- Overseeing the implementation of arising actions from any appropriate audits
