College Central is a ‘Good’ countywide Pupils Referral Unit with multiple sites across East Sussex. It provides education to young people with who have been, or are at risk of exclusion from mainstream school. College Central's site in Hastings (Tile Barn Road) are looking to recruit a Teaching Assistant 3 - Mentor, into our expanding team following promotion of existing staff who are now undertaking teacher training.
The role of the Teaching Assistant 3 - Mentor is a key position supporting pupils to access lessons and overcome challenges both in and out of the classroom. Mentor’s offer classroom support, pastoral support and work with class teachers to develop meaningful programmes. Mentors support the tutors as part of the tutor team and act as a supportive pastoral contact for all pupils. They sometime supervise classes to cover staff absence, working in small teams to deliver quality cover classes.
The hours of work are Monday - Friday, 8.30am-3.30pm (exact working pattern to be discussed at interview and agreed on successful appointment). We are a warm, friendly and supportive team, with additional benefits, such as free daily lunch.
