**Role Definition**
- A skilled craftsman who can work with metal in various ways. The prototype Engineer will be able to produce the flat pattern, cut, form, bend utilising both modern equipment and hand tools to deliver finished product.
- The prototype Engineer is responsible for manufacturing the part from start to finish, being multi-skilled in all aspects of sheet metal work.
- Working within a framework defined by the Product Development Leaders the prototype Engineer will be responsible for the generation of fulfilling representative prototypes, or small batches of components, and appliances from sketches, drawings and CAD preparedby the Engineering team.
- Occasionally providing support to the Manufacturing team.

**Capabilities**
- Manipulation of sheet metal (stainless / mild steel / enamelling iron / etc) to a form representative off tool products
- Capable of welding (Arc, MIG, TIG, Gas, CO2), brazing, etc.
- Be capable of working with a wide range of materials not just metal i.e. plastics, wood, etc.
- Energetic, flexible, and adaptable within a pressurised environment providing technical guidance to other business areas.
- An appreciation of normal manufacturing processes, their associated capabilities and limitations.
- Be able to work on their own initiative, or under the guidance of others within the Product Development team.
- Support any reasonable task associated with the efficient running of the department

**Education & Training Requirements**
- Minimum qualification is a City & Guilds or equivalent in sheet metal work and welding together with appropriate experience (ideally 'time served’).
