DB Schenker currently has an exciting new opportunity for a Head of Systems Freight Operations to join our Land Transport Product area. This is a newly created role to provide operational leadership on a daily basis, contributing to the strategic development of Land Transport UK and the implementation of the strategy into operational performance.

A key element will be to create a Central Transport Operations Control Tower to enhance vehicle profitability and provide an internal customer focussed transport service across the Cluster (UK & IE)

**What will you be doing?**
- Define the strategy and optimise cross-border Land Transport aiming at high quality standards coupled with ensuring continuous efficiency and productivity improvements
- Manage European Network and Line Haul Management budget and financial results (EBIT)
- Manage Central Operations Control Tower controlling all transport operations across the cluster
- Network planning - Establish a robust planning function with review process and key measures to establish planning performance
- Fleet Management - establishing the correct number/type of fleet and ensure sufficient flexibility with volumes - including management of service and VOR downtime
- Ensure achievement of network development targets incl. implementation and development of network production methods, standards, procedures and processes to improve performance for the total Linehaul organisation in Europe
- Develop and maintain cross-border network schedule and transport and capacity management to ensure market adequate supply of services
- Develop a monitoring system of Linehaul costs
- Ensure overall network productivity and quality level according to defined targets incl. development of measures to reduce identified deviations
- Define strategic framework for LT network relevant line haul management and coordination of required services
- Ensure the definition and development of minimum equipment specification and efficient operation of own fleet / equipment dedicated to European LT network and execute the procurement
- Set framework to enable cost efficient management of fleet and other assets by exploiting synergy through standardisation, harmonisation and aggregation
- Implement Land Transport strategy with relevance for network and line haul management
- Evaluate economic success of cross-border LT network in compliance with strategic targets and develop measures to achieve targets
- Manage cross-border Land Transport network activities and operations across Europe
- Strategic management, development and harmonisation of the cross-border and domestic System Freight product (options) portfolio and network across Europe compliant
- Actively manage the network performance and drive exploitation of Land Transport network synergies incl. process harmonisation and standardisation of network
- Ensure maintenance of network equipment
- Manage and develop network tariffs
- Leadership of Compliance & Fleet Manager and Administrator
- Oversee the line management of Drivers (Mix of own and sub-contractor c.200 vehicles with desires to significantly grow over next 3 years) via Company procedures and local Transport Managers
- Ensure all obligations to The Traffic Commissioners are met and maintain all Operator's Licence requirements
- 100% conformance to daily walk round checks and defects being cleared and documented
- Ensure DGSA functions are carried out and all drivers are appropriately trained and certified

**About You**
- Transport Manager CPC - National and international
- Experience in operational planning of resource
- Commercially inciteful of the UK haulage market and proactive adjustments
- Demonstrated management of geographically dispersed sites
- Commercially astute with proven delivery of operational and commercial results
- Experience negotiator and manager of subcontractors
- Proficient in the use of Excel and the full MS Office
- Fluent in written and verbal English
- Effective communication, influencing and relationship building skills

It would also be beneficial to have experience in the following:

- Transport Management Systems including route optimisation in a 24/7 environment
- Exposure to international operations with skills of collaborating at local and European levels in a matrix structure
- Further languages would be advantageous, ideally French or German
- Ability to travel extensively UK & IE (and occasionally regional) within the Schenker Network
