**About The Role**:
**Location**: Norfolk & Norwich University Hospital, Colney Lane, Norwich, NR4 7UY.

**Contract**:Fixed Term Contract for 12 Months.

**About the role**

Are you looking for a
**rewarding** role where every day is different?

Do you have the confidence, drive and
**passion** to make a positive difference to the lives of people who are affected by dementia?

Would you like to work within a
**supportive** and

We are looking to recruit an approachable and enthusiastic Dementia Adviser to work in a new and exciting role based in the Norfolk and Norwich University Hospital. Working alongside clinical staff, you will provide support and guidance to people with dementia, their carers and families.

Many people with dementia who come into hospital are in crisis situations. Their families are often exhausted and do not know what their options are or what to do next. In many cases, they are desperate just be listened to and understood.

A key part of this role will focus on supporting and being that listening ear for family members, giving them the time to discuss their struggles and talk about what is, and what is not, working at home. This could also include providing advice, guidance and support, and liaising with other health professionals. Then, when decisions around discharge are being made, there will be more understanding on what the real challenges are and what support may be on offer to help ease things a little, ensuring a smooth transition back home or to a care home.

**About you**

To succeed in this role, you will have:

- A passion to support people to maintain their independence, improving their sense of well-being and putting them in more control of their own lives
- An understanding of the needs of people affected by dementia, including carers.
- An understanding of what ‘go home’ will realistically look like for a person with dementia being discharged from hospital.
- Great communication skills, adapting your approach to ensure understanding at all levels.
- The confidence and be comfortable working in a hospital setting where very distressing situations may arise and be witnessed.
- The emotional resilience to cope with distressing behaviours.
- The ability to work inclusively, whilst understanding a need for client confidentially.
- The ability to manage several tasks at once and remain calm if required to perform under pressure.
- Good IT skills, including experience of using databases, MS Office and Outlook.
