- HM Coastguard (HMCG) is the operational arm of the Maritime and Coastguard Agency with responsibility for 6 key functions: Search and Rescue, Pollution Response, Vessel Traffic Management, Maritime Safety, Maritime Security and Emergency and Disaster Management.
- There are three delivery disciplines within HM Coastguard Operations; Maritime, which coordinates activities from an operations room environment, Aviation which operates the Aeronautical Coordination Centre (ARRC) from an operations room environment and Coastal which provides a frontline emergency response on the coast.
- Based at Dover, we have an exciting opportunity for a motivated individual to join our team as one of our Migrant Search and Rescue (SAR) Tactical Commanders, providing tactical leadership and operational oversight of Her Majesty’s Coastguard small boat migrant operations.-
- You will engage at regular meetings with stakeholders dealing with the small boat response to ensure policies and procedures are robust, providing advice and input where appropriate.
- This is an extremely rewarding role in which you have a direct impact on the saving and safety of lives at sea and on the coast. This role provides a fantastic opportunity to work with a diverse range of government stakeholders within a very unique operational environment. You will utilise interesting and innovative technology and will be constantly learning and developing specialist knowledge.
- This role is permanent, with the role holder required to work within an overall national staffing system, including weekends and public holidays.
- There may be a requirement for travel on official duty within the UK and overseas, which may involve overnight stays away from home. A passport valid for international travel is required as well as a full driving licence valid for driving in the UK.
- Successful applicant will be expected to undertake a medical. This will be in line with that required for a Maritime Operations Controller, detailed within the attached document.
- Applicants must not have been dismissed by the MCA within the past 24 months for failure to pass the required training for operational posts within HM Coastguard.**Responsibilities**:

- Responsibilities include but are not limited to:
- Providing tactical leadership and operational oversight of Migrant Small Boat Crossings and Search and Rescue (SAR) Operations in their capacity as Migrant SAR Tactical Commander, and where required the role of Search Mission Coordinator.
- Assisting in the creation, delivery and review of training and policy material in relation to small boat migrant SAR & Incident Coordination.
- Providing tactical support and guidance to operational teams, including medium-and longer-term tactical planning and the coordination of resources and functions to anticipate and meet operational needs based on dynamic risk analysis, ensuring that HMCG fulfills operational responsibilities relating to small boat migrant SAR.
- Having line management responsibility for Team Leaders and confirming officer responsibility for Senior Maritime Operations Officers and Maritime Operations Officers, managing staff in accordance with MCA policies and ensuring staff maintain personal competency levels and comply with continuation training and Continuous Professional Development requirements
