**Summary**:

- This position is based at London, National**Job description**:
The Head of Legal Services leads and manages the MMO’s in-house legal team which provides bespoke, robust, innovative legal advice, training and advocacy services across all areas of the MMO’s business to ensure that the MMO performs its statutory functions independently, lawfully and efficiently. In addition, the Head of Legal Services provides both legal and strategic advice to CEO, MMO Directors and the MMO Non-Executive Board.

The Head of Legal Services also sits on various internal and external groups such as the Defra Heads of Function group. The role manages the legal services budget which includes recommendation and ultimate approval of external legal support from legal suppliers and counsel.

Essential Criteria
- Proven senior experience in regulatory, public and criminal law
- Proven experience of working collaboratively within a public sector organisation
- Strong leadership with an emphasis on team building and developing people and the ability to manage complex and serious legal issues in a fast-paced environment
- A positive role model, demonstrating positive leadership values
- Excellent communication skills, both oral and written, and the ability to explain and present issues in clear, structured, and objective ways
- Confident decision maker comfortable being able to maintain legal advice in the face of challenge

Desirable Criteria
- Experience of collaborative working across other organisations and branches of Government
- Confident and comfortable dealing with colleagues
- Adept at maintaining and enhancing relationships both internally and externally with customers, stakeholders and peers.
- Corporate governance experience, including experience of developing and managing budgets aligned to corporate objectives and business plans, and risk management experience
