Your New Role

Are you an experienced Events Manager? Do you have extensive experience delivering high-profile events? National Highways has an exciting opportunity for a Senior Corporate Events Manager to join the Corporate Affairs and Communications Directorate.

As Senior Corporate Events Manager, you will develop the strategy and calendar of corporate events for the year. This will include participation at externally organised events and deliveringa number of National Highways organised events, ensuring that theprogramme helps deliver the communications and business objectives of National Highways. Flagship industry events include Highways UK and Traffex, and our National Highways Awards which is our highest profile event. You will add value by selection of platformsfor engaging with wide range of customers and stakeholders which is critical for enhancing reputation. Bidding for budget and managing contractors such as our Events agency are important aspects of the role.

Due to the nature of this role, you must be flexible to travel nationally when attending site visits and supporting and project managing events, which will include overnight stays.

What you’ll be leading on
- Develop the corporate events strategy and ensure that the programme is delivered effectively in line with objectives and budget
- Work with other members of the Communications Directorate, the wider business, agencies and external event organisers to identify opportunities, options and solutions to meet the current and future events needs of the organisation.
- Gather and act on event evaluation and feedback to ensure continuous improvement of events.
- Demonstrate personal credibility, integrity and capability across the function to form strong and influential relationships with relevant colleagues and external event organisers.
- Work collaboratively across the organisation to share best practice and provide event support where possible to regional and programme-related events.
- Provide a source of authoritative event advice to managers and other colleagues.
- Ensure that the events function is sufficiently resourced, drawing on internal resources and external support
- Ensure that relevant managers are kept fully aware of confirmed events, progress and opportunities.
- Design and deliver an extensive, professional events programme, bidding for an annual budget allocation, with the ability to respond to new event opportunities and requests at short notice and prioritise resources.
- Engage with senior communications managers to ensure that the corporate events strategy is fully aligned with and fully supports the wider strategic communications approach.

To be successful you’ll need
- To demonstrate experience managing high-profile events in private or public-sector communications environments which include all aspects of events eg. exhibitions, conferences and awards project management and external suppliers to time and budget. Proventrack record of working in a complex environment, leading a team and managing a significant budget.
- Experience in leading, planning and delivering successful events in a busy programme environment.
- Evidence of effective stakeholder relationship engagement to Board level with natural influencing and negotiation skills.
- Effective people management skills with evidence of working successfully with a wide variety of internal and external stakeholders.
- Ability to understand the organisation’s operations to a sufficient level to enable effective event decisions to be taken in terms of event type, content, speakers, partners and themes.
