Nightshift Kiln Operator

This is a nightshift role for a well established business in Holmfield. You'll be support the business on a nightshift to help to improve round the clock cover running and operating their kilns.

Working Hours:

- 1750hrs - 0600hrs night shift
- Alternating 3 / 4 nights per week (Fri/Sat/Sun and Thu/Fri/Sat/Sun)

£11 phr with a 20% shift premium

Essential skills:

- Experience of operating and supervising kilns or furnaces
- Knowledge of gas combustion and burner systems
- Understanding of thermocouples and temperature modulation
- Willingness to learn technical information to be able to safely and effectively operate, supervise and fault find on the kilns
- Experience of prioritising workload and orders
- Excellent communication skills with the ability to liaise effectively with people across different departments and levels
- Ability to work under pressure and meet deadlines
- IT literate and able to use in house systems
- Good knowledge and skills in Microsoft Excel and other packages

Day to day Duties and responsibilities:

- Responsible for start-up inspection, starting up, lighting, moving and switching off kilns
- Rapid problem solving to quickly diagnose and rectify kiln performance issues
- Remain flexible to working a varying shift pattern, so as to maximise the round the clock cover on the kilns
- Perform process monitoring inspections and data logging during the kiln cycle
- Reporting kiln loads onto in house production system, investigating and rectifying discrepancies
- Identifying maintenance needs and raising maintenance request tickets
- Promoting a positive working culture and environment
- Promoting a culture of safety first and focus on continuous improvement
- Maintain direct contact with kiln manager to ensure kilns are being loaded, unloaded and fired in the correct sequence and in good time to be able to service orders on time and in full
- Report on KPI’s to the site leadership team
- Escalate performance issues, breakdowns, loading delays and order shortages
- Maintaining a clean and tidy workspace and improving on the housekeeping standards in the area
- Raising requisitions to department manager for consumable kiln items and furniture
- Co-ordinate and move resource around within the team as necessary to suit the business needs and ensure the kilns are turned around safely, quickly, on schedule and in the correct sequence
- Review and update safe working practices for the area

**Salary**: £13.00-£13.20 per hour
