**Job description**
- The Policy and Public Affairs Officer will support the development and delivery of RCPCH policy and communications activity for Northern Ireland, working with the Policy and Public Affairs Manager and colleagues across the College.
- The post holder will have responsibilities across three main areas:

- 1. Support the Ireland Executive Committee (regional / national committee tasked with oversight in the Nation) and membership in Northern Ireland to provide insight, intelligence and member feedback to inform policy development, stakeholder relations and communications relating to health policy and practice in Northern Ireland- 3. With supervision, plan, draft and help produce policy and communications content to support engagement with stakeholders in government, policy and health circles in Northern Ireland, to influence policy and practice in line with RCPCH priorities.**Responsibilities**
- 2. Coordinate and produce draft responses to consultations in Northern Ireland for the review of the NI Policy & Public Affairs Manager
- 3. Support colleagues across the College with expertise on the political,
- governmental and health service landscape in Northern Ireland in determined areas of College work in the area.
- 4. Support the delivery of stakeholder management in Northern Ireland, ensuring productive professional relationships and extensive contact lists within government, policy making and across the health sector are maintained within post-holder remit
- 5. Communicate policy and public affairs priorities to stakeholders to maximise influence and impact using various mediums
- 6. Provide support including policy expertise to Officers or other College staff and members meeting with senior figures in Northern Ireland. Accompany College representatives to stakeholder meetings as needed in a support capacity.
- 7. Draft quotes, press releases and other content for media in Northern Ireland, working closely with the Policy and Public Affairs Lead, Senior Media Officer and Head of Media and Campaigns- 9. Provide support to enable the work of the Ireland Executive Committee, All-Ireland Committee and the Officer for Ireland - including pre and post meeting management.
- 10. Coordinate financial processes such as processing invoices; member’s expenses, registering suppliers and following up on queries**Essential skills**
- Relevant professional expertise
- Demonstrable experience in policy and public affairs
- Knowledge and understanding of policy and legislative processes in Northern Ireland
- Demonstrable experience of producing high quality, draft policy and communications outputs such as consultation responses, reports, policy briefings and/or press copy
- Strong communication skills including the ability to present complex information in a fluent and persuasive manner to internal and external stakeholders following briefing and in support of College members
- Analytical and problem-solving skills demonstrating the ability to analyse and resolve complex issues in relation to policy and public affairs
- Self-motivation and the ability to work both independently and as part of a small, dispersed team, within a larger function which works collaboratively with internal and external colleagues to produce informed outputs
- Excellent organisational skills including the ability to support committees or boards and governance structures; and plan and coordinate meetings and events (such as launches, roundtables, large meetings and one-day events)
- Ability to manage relationships with internal and external stakeholders at a range of levels
- Excellent time management and ability to plan, schedule and monitor competing priorities in a busy and varied role with minimum supervision

**Desirable skills**
- Experience of working in the health sector or within government, statutory or third sector organisations with a focus on health or children and young people
- A good working knowledge of public health, health inequalities or health service issues
