As Head of Technology Transfer, you will lead a team and play a meaningful role in helping to advance breakthrough innovations that are crafted by scientists and engineers at STFC’s National Laboratories. Directing a dynamic and fast-paced Innovation team, the Head of Technology Transfer will support a team of Innovation Mangers to deliver on our impact-orientated mission by leading on the exploitation of STFC technologies for economic and societal impact. This role will manage a team towards delivering the day-to-day requirements for successful evaluation of opportunities, development of commercialisation plans, identification of licensees and investors, to secure license deals, spinout, and commercial collaborations.

**Duties and Responsibilities**

As Head of Technology Transfer, the role is to maximise STFC return on research investment by commercialising STFC technologies. This role strives to:

- Work with the Director of Innovation to champion and deliver STFC innovations into commercial technology;
- Lead a team that finds opportunities, determines the strength of the technology, understands the market demand for the product or service and finds personnel and funding to bring the technology to a market-ready status;
- Lead on interactions within STFC and with partner organisations (including universities, business, and government departments, charities and others) to ensure that licences are secured for STFC technologies and impact is generated;
- Run the Proof of Concept Fund, a key internal translational fund for the National Laboratories to develop technologies with commercial potential;
- Work to increase STFC’s commercialisation profile;
- Contribute to the decision-making of STFC Innovation Ltd. by analysing and communicating commercial opportunities for decision;
- Contribute to the evaluation of STFC’s success in commercialisation and plans for the realisation of benefits;
- Contribute to the implementation of STFC strategy through enabling the Council to maximise the impact potential of STFC’s intellectual property, expertise and facilities.

**Person Specification**:

Essential:

- Experience in technology transfer, innovation scouting, or equivalent area (S & I)
- Previous track record of commercial thinking and securing science-based impact as a founder or within a science-focused organisation (S & I)
- Keen interest in the science that STFC generates and passionate about creating impact from world-leading science (S & I)
- Experience of commercialising deep tech opportunities with demonstratable history of licensing or spinout (S & I)
- Experience in leading high-performing teams to generate impactful outcomes (S & I)
- Experience negotiating complex licence deals or supporting deep tech spinouts (S & I)
- Customer focused with strong communication skills for technical and business audiences (I)
- Experience influencing at senior management and senior stakeholder level (I)
