Assistant Gardener

**About us**:
At Upper Vobster Farm we offer a selection of award winning fully equipped self-catering luxury Somerset cottages and accommodation. We have 55 acres of land, including a 6 acre wood, which is a nature conservation area and preservation area for birds of prey. You’ll find a flock of North Ronaldsay rare breed sheep, pygmy goats, various ducks which live in their own castle, many varieties of hens and other wildlife.

We are currently seeking a **newly qualified** OR **college leaver** gardener/grounds maintenance worker to perform daily maintenance tasks such as mowing, strimming, pruning, and weeding. This position will require you to work in a team environment, and work independently when needed. You will also be responsible for making sure the property is clean and presentable for visitors. Must be passionate for the outdoors and lover of all things nature. We are looking for someone who is proficient, punctual and committed.

**Duties and Responsibilities**:

- Prune, weed, and clean trees, shrubs, and bushes for disease detection and prevention.
- Maintain and clean equipment including strimmers, hoes, lawn mowers, and other tools..
- Maintain lawns by mowing grass regularly; restocking mulch; performing minor repairs as needed; maintaining watering systems; maintaining fences; maintaining grounds for play areas; maintaining woodlands; maintaining rivers and lakes; maintaining wildflower meadows; maintaining formal gardens and demonstrating lawn care; watering plants; animal care when necessary.
- Friendly personality with excellent interpersonal skills.
- Solid understanding of health and safety rules and legislation.
- Other duties as deemed necessary.

**Experience**:

- **Level 2 NPTC Horticulture or equivalent (essential)**:

- Chainsaw Cross Cut Maintenance and felling (desirable).
- Knapsack spraying - PA1 & PA6 (desirable).
- Tractor driving experience (desirable).
- Experience with any of the following is a plus: Lawn Maintenance (1 year preferred), Tree Pruning (1 year preferred), Carpentry (preferred), HVAC Maintenance (preferred), Basic Grounds Maintenance (1 year preferred).

**Education**:College Diploma or equivalent required or an equivalent combination of education and experience. A valid driver’s license is required due to the location of The Farm or relevant transport is necessary.

**Salary**: £8.00-£13.00 per hour
