**About the role**:
We are looking for an enthusiastic and reliable apprentice to carry out a range of grounds maintenance work including grass cutting, weeding and plant maintenance. The apprentice will also assist with preparing and dressing graves ready for a burial, undertaking attendant duties and showing funeral directors to the grave side.

What will the apprentice be doing?
- Assisting the Cemetery and Crematorium Operations Staff to achieve the highest possible standard of maintenance within Southend Cemetery / Crematorium and closed churchyards.
- To continue with the on-going learning process via mentoring, instruction and further structured courses including further block or day release.
- To adhere to all aspects of the Health and Safety at Work Act, 1974 in relation to Grounds Maintenance.
- To gain skills and knowledge of all aspects of Grounds Maintenance programmes.
- Under supervision to carry out a range of grounds maintenance duties including:

- cutting grass with pedestrian mowers and small ride-on mowers.
- Weeding and maintenance of shrub and rose beds and seasonal bedding displays.
- Working alongside the Cemetery team to prepare and dress graves ready for a burial, undertaking attendant duties and showing funeral directors to the grave side.
- Responsibility for the correct use of machinery/tools once trained in the safe and correct use.
- Completing the Level 2 Horticulture apprenticeship alongside specialised courses in Grave Shoring and Excavation (Lantra Certification)

Level 3 award in Emergency First Aid at Work
Pesticide Application Foundation Module (PA1)
