We have an exciting opportunity to recruit to our newly vacant Senior Countryside Warden post within our Countryside Team. This role consists of a wide range of tasks across Guildford Borough’s countryside estate, including three green flag award winning countryside sites, wetland, chalk downs, woodland, heathland, SANG sites and various other habitats. You will be responsible for ensuring the sites are managed effectively by enhancing, protecting, and conserving the natural environment. You will also work alongside our regular volunteer groups such as Butterfly Conservation.

We are looking for a self-motivated individual who can lead a strong team as well as being able to use their own initiative. You should be able to demonstrate excellent attention to detail and a strong customer focus.

Successful Interviewees will be invited to a practical assessment.

**Job Profile**
- To lead a team of countryside staff on a day-to-day basis directing work of warden team Leadership will include planning long and short-term work programmes, maintaining discipline, motivating staff, training junior staff and enforcing health and safety regulations in accordance with Council policies and the Health & Safety at Work Act.
- Implementing site management plans, carrying out practical countryside management and maintenance including scrub clearance, tree felling, woodland management, coppicing, pond and lake work, litter picking, infrastructure repairs and installation, tree planting, strimming works.
- To supervise contractors working within Parks & Countryside sites as directed by senior staff.
- To organise and supervise volunteers in carrying out conservation tasks on countryside sites. To include allocation of work tasks, training on the safe use of tools and ensuring risk assessments are in place.
- To assist in the development and delivery of countryside events and education programmes to encourage, promote and support outdoor recreation and countryside access inc. guided walks, talks and volunteer groups.
- To operate a variety of machinery, plant and hand tools including ‘ride-on’ and pedestrian operated machinery, vehicles, woodchippers, tractors, mowers and shredders, strimmers, brushcutters, chainsaws and hedge trimmers as well as hand tools such as saws, loppers, mattocks etc.
- To carry out flora and fauna monitoring and survey work on countryside sites as required.
- To use herbicides and pesticides appropriately as directed in line with Health and Safety requirements.
- To carry out litter picking, removal of fly-tipping when required.
- To carry out routine maintenance of machinery, equipment, tools and site infrastructure within countryside sites. To report any defects and complete the relevant documentation.
- To help provide opportunities for community involvement, promoting and supervising participation by volunteers and community and corporate groups. Develop positive relationships with local residents, clubs, groups and individuals.
- To assist in the preparation of publicity, public information.
- To carry out any other duties commensurate with the grading of the post as requested by management.
- Driving Licence valid to drive in UK in order to drive council Vehicles.
