**About the Opportunity**:
Jacobs is a global leader in the delivery of projects, engineering and technical services to energy and industrial markets.

You will be responsible for supporting our team of scientists, engineers and safety consultants in carrying out complex calculations for customer-funded projects, nuclear reactor safety and reactor design, during your placement year in industry. This work supports the development of advanced nuclear reactors for the next generation of reactors in the UK.

Responsibilities may include:

- Developing a detailed understanding of reactor plant performance, understanding and analysis
- Performing complex reactor physics plant and thermal hydraulics analysis and associated interpretation and reporting
- Developing underpinning mathematical and physical theories with your colleagues
- Working as a team to deliver work to time, cost and customer satisfaction
- Report writing and presenting results at technical meetings where appropriate
- Always working safely, in accordance with Jacobs’ procedures

**Here’s What You’ll Need**:
You will need to:

- be studying for a BSc(Hons) in Physics, or similar, ideally with some modules in nuclear physics.
- be a British national
- be self-motivated and enthusiastic
- be able to work flexibly as part of a highly technical scientific and engineering team
- have a desire to work in a flexible way, adapting to fresh challenges
- be able to perform complex calculations and accurately interpret the results
- be able to follow local procedures and understand the importance of quality assurance processes
- demonstrate a willingness to intervene to promote safe behaviours
- have excellent written and spoken English language skills

Due to the nature of the work being undertaken, security clearance will be required prior to commencement of employment.

Our client requires that you will be a sole UK Citizen, as security clearance to at least SC level will be required.
