We’re looking for an Engineering Team Manager (ETM) to join our Improvements team based in the Midlands. As an ETM, you’ll be responsible for the management of a team of engineers delivering improvements schemes on the strategic road network. You’ll leadon the management, budget control, project governance, safety and technical accountability relating to the surveys, study and design of highway improvement schemes. Work will include planning workload and allocating appropriate resources to deliver cost-effectivesolutions for all highways aspects of schemes. To deliver, you will use resources within your own team, engage with other engineering teams and project manage our supply chain.

This role will be hybrid working, with a base office location of Nottingham, Birmingham, or Telford.

What you’ll be leading on

Provide leadership, direction, and line management for a team of specialist engineers, ensuring timely setting of objectives, performance management reviews and development of appropriate succession.
Provide technical expertise in the identification and prioritisation of improvement option evaluation and selection, and development of early solutions.
Collaborate with multiple teams to ensure that regional forward programmes, capital investment and maintenance plans reflecting asset needs and considerations, are developed in a way that is compliant with the relevant technical policies and standards.
Authorise technical briefs, reports, specifications, drawings and supporting information.
Lead the interface with Safety, Engineering and Standards colleagues and provide input into the development of and/or review of standards, documentation, and methods of working.
Undertake the assessment of designs, studies, and reports prepared by others.
Ensure that all tender and contract documentation is prepared in accordance with MCDHW and DMRB.
Provide assurance and challenge to technical solution designs and technical requirements specifications.
Project governance including ensuring available budget is managed as schemes are progressed.
To be successful

A Chartered Engineer with appropriate experience, or an Incorporated Engineer/near Chartered Engineer with extensive relevant experience.
Civil Engineering Degree, or HND with relevant experience, or equivalent.
Advanced knowledge and practical experience in Highway Engineering and Materials and a good knowledge of CDM 2015.
Experience in preparing Highway design packages for pricing and delivery as well as thorough understanding of relevant technical standards, asset policies and strategies.
Extensive experience of managing a technical team
Good commercial and financial acumen, including budget management as well as excellent stakeholder management and communication skills with a strong customer focus.
Asset management decision making (capital investment, lifecycle costs, value optimisation, service & availability optimisation, social & economic knowledge).
