**About us**

We are Umuada Part of the wider NCHA family, Umuada is a specialist, emergency, supported housing project for women fleeing domestic abuse. In addition, we have properties in the local community which provide a stepping stone approach for families not quite ready for independent living. Umuada is a forward thinking service that is passionate about getting the best outcomes for women and children who have experienced trauma.

**_ Umuada _**is looking for a Support Worker who has experience of working with or supporting survivors of domestic abuse to join our small but efficient team.

**About the role**

Working as part of a team of four Support Workers and a trained Children’s and Young Person’s worker, reporting to the Project Manager, you will play a vital role in supporting women and children to live a life free from abuse. You will work with them to assess needs and risks, plan a package of support and risk management bespoke to their needs. Some of the other duties will involve:

- Supporting the delivery of group work and social activities in refuge
- Supporting survivors to participate in multi-agency meetings and liaising with other stakeholders as required, to advocate for our clients and ensure risk is managed, and support needs are met.
- Working with colleagues to provide a clean and welcoming environment for all accessing our services
- Keeping accurate and up to date records.
- The project is staffed Monday to Friday 9am to 6pm and Saturday 9am to 4pm.

**This post is exempt under Sch. 9 Pt 1 of the Equality Act 2010 and is only open to female applicants.**

**About you**
In addition to your previous experience, you will be forward thinking and be an advocate for families who have suffered abuse and would have ideally, worked with a variety of agencies including Housing and Social care.

You will have the values, knowledge and skills of working within a support role and be able to demonstrate how you use your skills and common sense to support vulnerable individuals and families.

You will also have a commitment to maintaining the dignity and rights of the individuals and families we work with, with top-notch communication and basic IT skills.
