About the opportunity**
Reporting to the Telecom Head of Discipline, you will drive the development & innovation of our technical solutions for our Rail clients. Specifically supporting on our IP Networking strategy and opportunities within the business. Ensuring our clients meet their greatest challenges to ensure technical excellence and delivery of Transportation and EMEA strategies. The role will be;
- Predominantly aligned to: BeyondZero, People, Projects & Performance, Innovation & Technology, Global Connectivity; Digital Connectivity
- Key stakeholders: Operations Lead partner, Portfolio Leads, Solutions and Technology Team, other OU resource leads, our People
- Direct reports: the role may have direct reports of typically 10 Engineers.
- Whilst there is no set location for this role, it will require the ability to travel in line with business needs.
**Responsibilities**
- Subject Matter Expert for IP Networking technologies within the UK.
- Carry out the duties of Telecom Contractors Responsible Engineer (CRE) or Project Engineer (PE) as required.
- Ensure internal and contractor’s design/construction/specialists’ personnel have the correct competencies.
- Manage all Telecom engineering activities on allocated projects so that they result in schemes that are affordable and meet programme requirements in a safe and environmentally responsible manner for time, cost and quality.
- Manage the design and/or construction elements of allocated projects ensuring they meet the requirements of current legislation, including construction design management (CDM) and CSM-RA regulations.
- Provide advice in respect of all construction activities, including testing and commissioning and site supervision.
- Monitor design and specialist consultants and contractors.
- Identify and help to share best practice across all project teams.

- Drive the development & innovation of our technical solutions for our clients, to meet their greatest challenges.
- Support the development of the Transportation GID delivery Plan, ensuring that our capability is full aligned with the plan and supports the development of successful co-working with the GID centres.
- Management of technical competence and professional career development.
- Ensuring the Resource Management systems are kept up to date and identifying gaps in skills and resource to the Technology Solutions Group Lead in a timely manner;
- To promote and the support of the technical & professional career paths - including the Technologist Career path.
- Be the face of technical excellence both within Jacobs and in the external Rail market, attending industry events, influencing industry institutions, promoting Jacobs technical capability.
- To work collaboratively, to ensure cross fertilisation of skills within the UK and internationally, for the wider benefit of Jacobs.
- Management of G&A budgets for: management, bench & technical training.
- To work in partnership with the Technology Solutions Group Lead and Head of Operations to drive a culture of safety and inclusion.
- Ensuring long term staff engagement.
- To assist the Head of Telecoms to Lead and represent the Rail telecom team in annual audits e.g. RISQS.
- To work collaboratively with Portfolio Leads, and their teams, to ensure innovation and technical excellence are effectively delivered, to meet client needs.

**Qualifications & Experience**:
**Essential**
- Extensive IP Networking knowledge
- Degree/HNC or relevant experience;
- Good communicator;
- Experience in people management;
- A working knowledge of Network Rail and other client Standards;
- Approved or able to be nominated as a Network Rail Contractors Responsible Engineers (CRE)
- An understanding of the arrangements required for the independent assessment of work.
- CDM, CSM-RA, risk assessment, engineering management competency.
- Specific experience of project development for telecom schemes, NR approval processes and deliverables criteria for telecom schemes.
- A good working knowledge of Operational Telecom systems (FTN, FTNx, GSM-R, Telephony, Optical and Copper cable design) and SISS Telecom systems.
- Knowledge of quality assurance.
