**Job Purpose**

Delivery of analysis, policies and projects required to deliver Distribution System Operator strategy. To develop, build and implement a suite of technical and market solutions to optimise the distribution networks and allow the effective integration ofDistributed Energy Resources (e.g. Distributed Generation, Energy Storage, Flexible Demand and Electric Vehicles) in a cost-effective and timely manner.

**Principal Accountabilities**
- Produce the engineering analysis, policies and design standards required to operate an active distribution network and enable the continued deployment of Distributed Energy Resources
- Product development for flexibility services and smart network solutions
- Carry out network analysis and modelling of flexibility services and smart commercial arrangements
- Day to day management of smart grid projects including, active network management and flexibility services
- Deliver training & produce processes that will enable the business integration and deployment of new solutions
- To represent and participate in external working groups such as Energy Networks Association's Open Networks project

**Skills, Qualifications and Experience**

Essential skills, qualifications and experience
- Degree in engineering or other quantitative discipline - working towards Chartered Engineer status
- Excellent project and stakeholder management skills
- Understanding of the principles of power systems engineering
- Experience in scripting programming using Python
- Strong data and statistical analysis skills

**Beneficial skills, qualifications and experience**
- Postgraduate degree (MSc, MPhil, PhD) in power systems engineering with focus on integration of Distributed Energy Resources
- Practical or academic experience in generation or load forecasting techniques, knowledge of generation dispatch and optimal power flow methodologies and state estimation techniques.
- Knowledge of electricity network investment and operational planning processes
- A project management qualification such as APMP or Prince2.
- Experience in the development of smart network solutions, including Active Network Management systems
- Awareness of the Distribution/Grid Code and National Grid Connection and Use of System Code (CUSC);
- An understanding of the connection charge policy and how it impacts on costs charged.
- Understanding of physical asset management practices and regulatory requirements;
- Understanding the impact of low carbon technologies (solar, wind, EVs, storage) are having on the distribution network.
- Experience working with SCADA/ICT technologies in the power system sector
- Self-motivation and the ability to work under own initiative;
- Strong analytical skills and the ability to problem solve;
- Willingness to learn and adjust in a complex and fast moving environment,
- Good team working skills;
- Good report writing skills - conveying complex issues simple on paper.
- Strong interpersonal skills and an ability to communicate clearly and confidently at all levels of the organisation including presenting technical and financial arguments to internal and external audiences;
