Reporting to the Textiles Manager the Textiles Assistant will support the creative team by actively upcycling “waste” têxtiles into new products for retail.

The têxtiles assistant will strive to be versatile, supporting the team in the final production of items ready for sale, meeting and exceeding production targets where possible. They will work closely with other members of the Refactory creative team for support and collaboration, namely the designer/pattern cutter and the preproduction team. On occasion, they will also be expected to engage and support in projects that requires them to work alongside the sales and marketing team, site staff and external agencies.

This is an all-encompassing roll which requires a can-do attitude and a passion for minimising waste alongside problem solving.

Roles & Responsibilities include but are not limited to;
- Assist the creative team to successfully upcycle an array of “waste” items into new products
- Work confidently both independently and as part of a team
- Create products prioritising recyclability, durability/longevity, and practicality. Constantly questioning methods to improve finished products
- Problem solving with a wide variety of materials. Championing the ethos that we work for the material, the material does not work for us
- To assist the designer and pattern cutter with volume production, suggesting own thoughts and ideas which may improve designs and final construction
- Confidently use machinery available to produce various items of a high quality
- Report concerns / problems with machinery asap to Management
- Reducing waste as much as possible in the production stage, always questioning if more sustainable options are available
- Take on feedback from team members to continuously improve on skills
- Use initiative as much as possible to come up with own ideas of ways to improve items in production
- Maintain a tidy workspace to comply with H&S guidelines and be respectful of shared work areas
- Run multiple projects simultaneously, managing own time effectively to meet set deadlines
- Regularly communicate with the Textiles Manager to deliver projects in a timely manner, being sure to highlight any potential issues that may impact on production and meeting deadlines
