We are looking for an experienced Software Engineer with a passion for both developing software and supporting their colleague's progression.
This is an exciting opportunity for someone who is ready to step into a management position but isn’t ready to take a complete step back from writing code. This role will be a 50/50 split between hands-on development and people management.

**What we’ll be asking you to do**

As a Line Manager:

- Adopt the leadership style set out by the Head of Software Engineering
- Hold frequent 1-2-1s and capture notes/actions
- Manage absence and performance processes
- Work with the Lead Engineers to understand how team members are performing and raise any concerns in a timely manner
- Adhere to our matrix structure to ensure hierarchies are not created within Scrum teams
- Escalate any people issues to the Head of Software Engineering or the People and Places team as appropriate
- Maintain an inclusive and transparent environment to work within
- Uphold confidentiality of personal information
- Work with individuals to map out and support their career development

As a Software Engineer:

- You will be responsible for development and delivery of the code base supporting end to end IT solutions that enable Sero to manage customer interactions, the development of new tooling portfolios supporting carbon neutral developments, energy optimisation and predictive modelling. Your scope will cover the full stack and your responsibilities, outside of delivering code, will include;
- Interpreting user stories and working with the scrum team to turn these into deliverable tasks
- Delivering code supporting the tasks associated with multiple Sero tool-suites
- Adopting and driving CI/CD into our delivery cycles
- Writing unit, component, integration and acceptance tests
- Gaining a deep understanding of the Sero architecture and tool integration points

**What we would like from you (please) **

To be successful in the job straight away you will need:

- Around 3 years' experience as a Software Engineer
- Experience working on Typescript and Node products for both mobile and web
- Highly developed communication skills
- Experience of mentoring and coaching individuals
- Experience working with cloud platforms, preferably using Kubernetes in a microservice environment
- Knowledge of designing and implementing CI/CD
- A deep understanding of relational and non-relational data stores
- Awareness of Agile principles and the benefits of the differing methodologies

It would be great (but not essential) if you also had:

- Previous line management experience
- Experience of working within a DevOps environment

**Working Times**: Our policy allows working anywhere at any time, ultimate flexibility. We'd like at least some of your working hours to be coordinated with other internal and external team members to ensure we're being efficient and communicating effectively. We think work should fit your lifestyle, so you can work when you can be most efficient.

**Location**: We have an office based in Cardiff but every member of the Sero team has the option to work remotely, full time or part-time, depending on role and responsibility. For this role we would ideally like to see you in our Cardiff Hub once a month. We’re fully set up for virtual working and will work and support you in which works best for your work life balance.

**Salary**: £65,000.00-£75,000.00 per year
