**Purpose of the Role**:
To coordinate, drive and deliver a high quality, effective Youth work activities program reaching out to young people aged between 12 and 18, promoting their personal, educational and social development, and engaging them in activities aimed at re-dressing inequalities, improving their life chances, and empowering them to take action on issues affecting their lives, including mental and physical health, education, unemployment and the environment, by developing skills and attitudes.

**Main Duties and Responsibilities**:

- _Coordinate, train and support workers and volunteers in delivering a programme of youth work (for 12-18 year olds) at evenings and weekends_
- _Drive the delivery of agreed outcomes and outputs, ensuring monitoring and evaluation is completed and targets are met._
- _Line manage youth workers and sessional youth workers, conducting appraisals and performance reviews_
- _Undertake youth work, observing all required welfare and safety procedures_
- _Deliver/support the delivery of on-site and off-site engagement and developmental activities (arts, music, community, environmental, as well as activities supporting engagement in training and employment)_
- _Work with the Listening Service Manager and team to support individual young people based on their needs_
- _Contribute to managing and administering youth and community projects and resources;_
- **Project Delivery**_
- Ensure funders’ compliance requirements are met.
- Ensure compliance with appropriate organisational/project policies and procedures
- Maintain overview and link with The Listening Service and other youth activities taking place at YMCA St Helens, in St Helens and surrounding areas
- Work with the Listening Service Manager, and youth work team members to manage a diary of youth activities
- **Strategic and developmental**_
- _Drive the vision for youth work, “Take the Lead” & group focussed support activities_
- _Keep up to date on national trends and information on young people and youth work issues._
- **Programme Management**_
- _Monitor delivery of targets and standards_
- _Deliver staff/volunteer training where appropriate_
- _Keep abreast of organisational policies and procedures and ensure they are followed_
- **Safeguarding**_
- _Act as an organisation safeguarding officer_
- _Deliver staff/volunteers safeguarding training where appropriate_
- _Keep abreast of safeguarding policies and procedures and ensure they are followed/implemented_

**Additional Duties**:
To be aware of our organisational ethos and policies and to work within them.

**Skills and Attributes**:
**Essential**
- Experience and/or qualifications in youth work and coordination of youth work teams
- Knowledge & experience of working with young people with mental health/SEN/challenging behaviors
- Good practical understanding of youth work theory.
- Strong practical understanding of health and safety within a youth work setting
- Experience of successfully delivering and coordinating youth work projects
- Experience of monitoring and evaluating projects with clear outcomes being successfully delivered.
- Very strong young people’s skills
- Ability to work evening and weekends
- Self motivated with high level of initiative
- Excellent interpersonal and networking skills
- Experienced in managing teams of paid staff and volunteers and budgets
- Safeguarding young people experience/training
- Strong computer & administration skills
- Experience of monitoring targeted and writing reports for funders/commissioners

**Desirable**
- Flexible approach to working, able to adapt to changing landscape
- Capacity to engage with people from various sectors, cultures and traditions
- Experience working with young people with SEND
- Qualified in First Aid
- Current driving licence (with category B1 - or willing to train) and access to vehicle
