**Purpose of the role**:
The Differentiated Underwriting (DU) portfolio is an exciting and fast developing part of the Syndicate’s underwriting proposition: the Syndicate uses the DU portfolio to access lines of business it does not write in the open market via MGA, consortia and quota share. The deals range geographically, by product (insurance/treaty) and market (Lloyds, insurtech, niche MGAs) and the ethos of the portfolio is built upon engagement with ‘other’ products. We are looking for someone to support strategic management of the portfolio from the perspective of client profitability, client (new and existing) fit within the portfolio, optimisation of capital modelling for portfolio analysis and development, and day-to-day account handling. This role will also involve supporting of more traditional underwriting and we believe that a ‘hybrid’ role such as this befits the future. To be considered for this position you will currently be working in an underwriting or broking environment and have touched portfolio deals, either proportional treaty or MGA, and have an interest in how the numbers are important to decision making.

**Duties and accountabilities**:

- To ensure that the in force portfolio is performing as planned through analysis of data and interaction with internal touch points (claims, actuarial, operations) and external as required
- To consider, in conjunction with the differentiated underwiting (DU) team, strategic and practical decisions as regards underperforming deals
- To manage reporting and presentations for DU in terms of the normal reporting suite and to augment this so as to support internal and external stakeholders
- To assist the delegated authority and compliance teams as appropriate with ongoing queries and binding of deals
- To liaise with credit control as required
- To liase with the accumulations management team as required and support new initiatives for exposure management
- Technical or market analysis for deals being underwritten by DU
- Some underwriting to support the rest of the DU team as required
- Engage with underwriters, senior management, brokers, coverholders and external auditors as required
- Continue to develop knowledge and experience in the respective class of business

**Skills, knowledge and experience**:

- Excellent analytical and numerical ability
- Close attention to detail
- Knowledge of the London Market from experience on a broking or underwriting platform
- Ability to prioritise workload and complete tasks in a timely, accurate and organised manner
- Ability to work effectively within a team and on an individual basis
- Well-developed social and communication skills
- Progress towards completion of the ACII qualification
- Good understanding of Microsoft Office Suite with a strong focus on Excel.
