Horticultural Grower

**Key Objectives**:
To produce young plants in plugs and/or pots from both seed raised and vegetative material to agreed specifications and timescales.

To ensure the growing area you are responsible for is kept tidy and clean. Areas must be kept weed free, dead plants removed and hosepipes kept safe to avoid trip hazard.

**Key Responsibilities**:
Day to day crop culture to include:

- Check moisture levels and water accordingly, so crops are maintained at the correct moisture level for their specific requirement.
- Control crop growth to ensure plants meet acceptable quality/specification through the use of appropriate chemical and non-chemical means (environment/trimming/moisture)
- Report crop losses to the stock controller. Where set assessments are required ensured these are carried out.

Supervise the Apprentice’s to carry out the duties required for growing in each area and assist in their training and knowledge of production.

When appropriate, manage the ‘housekeepers’ to effectively manage their area under direction from growers.

Ensure Company Health and Safety policies and guidelines are adhered too, and at all times ensure staff with, or under you, understand the importance of Health & Safety.

As a key member of staff, always remain vigilant of other staff working in your area and ensure they are working effectively.

**Performance Measurement**:
Weekly assessments will be made of your growing areas and a score attributed reflecting how well the key objectives are being met.

Crop Yields are used to determine ‘Growing Success’ and will be traceable to batch/location enabling a review of an area of responsibility by Grower.

**Hours & Additional Hours**

Hours - 39 hours per week plus overtime

There is a requirement to work a rota of 1 in 4 weekends. Due to the nature of our business we have a weekend watering rota in place. Any additional hours are paid on an overtime rate.
