Job Summary The Division of Surgery covers the following specialties - Anaesthetics, Trauma and Orthopaedic, General Surgery, Gynaecology, Pain Management, Urology, Oral Surgery.

The post holder will provide an efficient, effective and comprehensive nursing support to the Surgical Day case department and the Arrivals department when required in accordance with standard operating procedures and trust policies and procedures.

The post holder provide support to registered nursing staff and other healthcare professionals in the delivery of patient care at a level determined by training, competence and experience.

They will also assist in the maintenance of the care environment and perform housekeeping, clerical and ancillary roles as requested. To undertake duties for which training has been received and where relevant, competency based assessment successfully completed

Clinical Support Worker - Band 2 - Surgical Day Case department 30 hours per week
Are you looking for a challenge in a supportive, friendly, and well established department? Well this exciting opportunity may be for you We currently have a vacancy available for a band 2 care support worker in the surgical day case department which is open from Monday to Friday between the hours of 09.00-21.00. You will help assist post-operative patients back to independence and ultimately to a safe discharge home. You will monitor patients vital signs and recovery, reporting any issues to the registered nurse. At times you will be required to work in the Arrivals department where patients are prepared pre operatively for theatre

You will need to be self-motivated, flexible, an excellent communicator. Applicants must be a multi-skilled professional who enjoys working within a busy department. You will become part of a professional and caring workforce delivering high standards of care to our patients, which is both challenging and rewarding.

Main Responsibilities

Clinical
- Assist in the taking of patient’s observations as appropriate to the level of knowledge, skills and competence achieved. Record these in accordance with Trust and local policies.
- To effectively manage own workload when caring for a group of patients and reporting to a Registered nurse when expected roles have not been fulfilled
- To ensure that any observed incident, complaint or other undue occurrence is reported in accordance with Trust policy.
- Participate in the maintenance of an effective and safe environment
- Assist the patient through their recovery as necessary i.e. provide food and drink when able to tolerate, assist to the bathroom as necessary, assist with a safe discharge within level of competence and responsibility
- Report all clinical concerns to the registered nurse in a timely manner

Non Clinical
- Supporting registered nursing staffto communicate effectively and clearly to meetthe needs of patients, carers and staff. This will include referring carers and visitors on to the appropriate registered nurse; adhering to the Trust’s complaint procedure with regard to formal and informal complaints; updating notice boards attending staff meetings and where necessary acting as a unit representative at specific meetings at the department managers request.
- Ensure that all areas within the department are clean and tidy.
- Ensure that adequate stock levels are maintained as designated by department manager.
- Receive, check and appropriately store deliveries to the unit.

Health & Safety
- Be aware of and observe fully the worker’s duties under the Health & Safety at Work Act and to observe all the Trust’s policies relating to Health & Safety and Risk management.
- Attend Trust mandatory training and updates.
- Assist in the maintenance of a safe environment. This includes the cleaning up of spillages: moving objects which may contribute to untoward incidents; safe disposal of sharps; working within the guidelines of the safe handling policy and reporting and recording all incidents and/or untoward incidents.
