The South East Regional Prison Intelligence Team is responsible for gathering and developing intelligence from HM Prison and Probation Service (HMPPS) and other associated establishments relating to national security issues and organised crime.

Working as part of this team, the Prison Corruption Investigator will investigate referred corruption cases within prisons in the South East, through the agreed taking protocols as required. This requires extensive collaborative working, including with the wider SERPIT prison intelligence team, local policing and the HMPPS Regional Counter Corruption Unit, to establish the appropriate methods for gathering material and developing procedures to turn said material into intelligence or evidence.

In order to be successful in this role you must hold a PIP 2 level qualification, and be able to demonstrate experience of serious and complex criminal investigations. You will also have a basic understanding of data protection principles, and experience of a broad arena of intelligence and risk assessment, intelligence development and quality assurance.

**Responsibilities**
- Support the Regional Counter Corruption Unit and PIO as a specific point of contact into local Policing for matters relating to corruption investigations.
- Collect and gather material, intelligence and evidence from a range of sources that are appropriate to the serious and complex nature of the investigation, record and retain evidence in a format that is evidentially admissible to support the investigative process.
- Identify and plan own investigative actions, taking into account resources, priorities, and proportionality to achieve investigatory objectives.
- Assess threat, harm and risk in order to develop and implement plans and strategies to investigate serious and complex crime.
- Interview witnesses and suspects and gather all required information, intelligence and evidence in relation to serious and complex investigations in accordance with PIP2 investigative standards also generating further lines of enquiry where required to bring offenders to justice.
- Use relevant powers to arrest and apprehend where necessary and issue special warnings.
- Undertake associated search and custody procedures to protect and safeguard the public in accordance with legislation and policy.
- Carry out analysis, assess evidence, and evaluate material generated by the investigation of serious and complex crimes to identify offenders.
- Ensure all material, including exhibits generated by serious and complex crime are seized, examined, and retained in accordance with legislation and policy, where necessary.
- Respond to safeguarding concerns and advise HMPPS to assist in managing risk in cases, including but not limited to; offences against vulnerable adults within the Prison environment and within the community.
- Prepare reports on the outcome of investigations and build and manage case files and conduct disclosure within best practice procedures to ensure there is an accurate audit trail.
- Assist HMPPS and NPCC resources as a point of contact in relation to corruption matters that are effecting the organisation keep abreast of the changes in legislation, providing advice and guidance to the Unit, HMPPS and local Force in matters relating to prison investigations.
- Identify potential Source referrals for Dedicated Sources Units and potential referral to SOCPA 2005 Assisting Offender Units.

**Required knowledge/skills**
Essential
- Hold a PIP Level 2 qualification and able to demonstrate experience of serious and complex criminal investigations.
- Demonstrable experience of complex information gathering and problem solving.
- Basic knowledge of data protection principles and procedures.
- Experience in a broad arena of intelligence (Intelligence systems and procedures together with associated legislation) and risk assessment, intelligence development and quality assurance.

Desirable
- Knowledge of counter corruption/SOC and/or HMPPS intelligence.
- Experience of working with partner agencies.
- Experience of working in an intelligence environment.
- Knowledge of NIM processes and Authorised Professional Practice on Intelligence
- Management re intelligence gathering, evaluation and dissemination of confidential material.

**Additional information**
- Holds a full current UK/European driving licence.
- Willingness and ability to travel for work purpose.
- Acting as a coordination and support function for both HMPPS and local forces for corruption cases and be willing to undertake directed enquiries and provide support in relation to the Regional Prisons Intelligence Unit.
