Support Matron

Oundle, United Kingdom Oundle School Full time

**The Role**:
The House system is at the heart of life at Oundle. It is in the community of the House that most pupils find the confidence and sense of purpose that lead to fulfilment in the larger community of the School. In providing exceptional pastoral care and guidance to the pupils, the role of Day Matron is key. There are two senior day Houses of c110 pupils each, between Y9 and Y13, and a junior House of 100 pupils, who move onto the senior day or boarding Houses in Y9 having joined in Y7 from Laxton Junior School or other local primary schools, state and independent. There is a small Y9 entry from other local schools.

The purpose of this flexible role is to provide a seamless service to the boarding house when the resident Matron and Relief Matron are not present or when they need extra support. This might be in Houses to relieve pressure at times of significant pupil illness and to take pupils to medical appointments on an ad hoc basis, or to provide transport to A&E/walk-in where needed along with pastoral care until relieved by Matron, parent or Hsm. This will be organised in advance and each shift is likely to be from 15:00 - 19:30 on Tuesday, Thursday or Saturday. Support Matrons providing cover are non-residential.

**THE SCHOOL**:
Oundle and Laxton Junior Schools have long been associated with the very best of modern independent education, especially boarding. The Schools take seriously their responsibility to pupils so that they can emerge as decent, open-minded adults; ambitious about what they can go on to achieve and contribute. Over 1400 pupils are on roll at the School, of whom 840 are full boarders. Academic results are steadfastly excellent.

A team of around 800 staff, both academic and support, ensure an education of the highest standard is in place across the Schools with the efforts of the whole team focused on this fundamental aim.

**Living in Oundle**:
We are fortunate in our location at the heart of a beautiful market town. School and town are part of the same community and our pupils take their place within this community, not isolated from it. The town has a spirited cultural life, with an annual international festival, a literature festival, and frequent performances of nationally touring shows at the School’s Stahl Theatre.
