The farm works with arable crop, sheep and predominantly diary cows. The role will be to work within a team to look after the health and milk production of the herd. We offer training on all aspects of dairying to enable a career in the field.

**Wage**: £7.50 per hour.

**Hours**: 40 - 48 hours per week. The working day will start at 07:00am and end at 17:00pm, you will receive two hours break to be taken during the day and a 20 minute coffee break at 10:00am.

**Possible start date**: 30th September 2023 (interviews and start date may commence sooner)

**About us**:
Huddlestone Farmers Ltd. is a mixed Farming business based in Sussex farming roughly 2000 acres in Sussex and Berwickshire. We have arable crop alongside sheep and diary cows. Our diary department has 8 Lely A5 robots to milk.

**What will the apprentice be doing?**

As you will be working on the a farm, the day to day tasks will vary, however in general you will be responsible for:

- Looking after cow health and welfare
- Maintaining beds
- Using a skidsteer/ telehandler
- Maintenence of farm roberts and machinery
- Support calving/ fresh calved cows
- Support of other farm areas during busy periods, such as lambing season

**What qualifications will the apprentice receive?**

Core elements within this apprenticeship:

- Undertake “safe and effective” activities as instructed and actively record daily activity. For example, cleaning machinery, monitoring and recording livestock (livestock checks)
- Operate within strict bio-security practices. For example, implementing visitor policy
- Maintain a satisfactory environment for the animals such as ensuring clean bedding, water and shelter

- Operate agricultural vehicles relevant to the business safely, legally and in line with current legislation
- Recognise environmental risk and carry out operations to minimise environmental impact, such as avoiding pollution of soil, air and water courses. Check and maintain field boundaries
- Prepare and maintain crop/forage storage as instructed. Including monitoring pests and vermin in crop or bulk bins and temperature monitoring
- Monitor and maintain farm infrastructure, machinery and non-production areas as instructed. For example, checking oil in farm machinery, maintaining fences, general building maintenance
- Implement effective storage and disposal of waste in accordance with regulation; such as chemicals, sharps, organic and non-organic waste
