Hours per week 37.5 part time or job share welcomed
The Bedfordshire and Luton Perinatal Mental Health Team provides mental health support for women and their babies during pregnancy and 1 year after birth. The team prioritizes women with serious and complex mental health needs, including those who have experienced serious mental health episodes in the past and are currently well. We also provide specialist consultation, training and advice to a range of mental health, maternity and primary health services.
We are pleased to be advertising for Senior Mental Health Practitioner to work within the perinatal team with women receiving support from the service. We are looking for someone with an understanding of perinatal mental health and experience within adult mental health services. A background knowledge of the parent-infant relationship, and infant mental health would also be an advantage.
The Senior Practitioner will sit within the PNMH team, and help to develop stronger links with a wide range of services that support women and their families. We are looking for individuals who are passionate about improving the experience for women with mental health problems, with an ability to adapt to change and work flexibly and creatively.
The post holder will be part of a multi-disciplinary Community Perinatal Mental Health Team, contributing to the effective provision of Perinatal Mental Health Services.
The post holder will work as a senior member of the team, and provide supervision and induction to colleagues in the wider Perinatal Team. You will manage and prioritise daily enquiries and referrals, addressing any identified risk concerns and offering urgent assessments for women if indicated.
You will be based in Gilbert Hitchcock House, Bedford and will need the ability to drive to undertake any urgent work, basing this decision on your clinical judgement.
As a registered mental health practitioner (Nurse, Social Worker or OT) you will communicate with a range of service users, families and carers on a daily basis, which needs a compassionate and empathetic approach.
ELFT is committed to equality of opportunity for all employees, job applicants and service users. We are committed to ensuring that no one will be discriminated against on the grounds of race, colour, creed, ethnic or national origin, disability, religion, age, sex, sexual orientation or marital status. The Trust commits itself to promote equal opportunities and value diversity and will keep under review its policies, procedures and practices to ensure that all employees, users and providers of its services are treated according to their needs.
For management posts, to ensure that within their service area fair employment practice and equality of opportunity are delivered.
1. To conduct high quality assessments, and facilitate access to support and advice, including giving advice for urgent enquiries.
2. Liaise both with individuals that are presenting with a first presentation of mental health need and those with on-going mental health needs that may be receiving support from a number of other agencies.
3. Work as an autonomous practitioner contributing to the safe and effective care of families under the care of the team.
4. Promote awareness and understanding of Perinatal mental health and wellbeing, and deliver training to primary and secondary care colleagues in recognising Perinatal mental health problems and formulation of personalised and holistic support plans.
5. Collaborate with the team and community colleagues to provide a variety of groups and group interventions for perinatal families.
