Personal Care Assistant B24g

**Hours of work: 24 hours per week over three days**

**Rate of pay: £11.20 per day**

**Introduction**:
We are looking for a committed, caring, and flexible Personal Care Assistant to support a young man to live independently. The hours are to be worked flexibly with an agreed rota in advance and will include weekend working. The young man enjoys creative projects from website design to building structures out of raw material, loves music, watching DVDs or visiting the cinema, going on road trips, upcycling furniture or making things out of wood or having a good chat. You will need imagination, be fun to be around and also be able to balance his personal needs.

This post is funded through the Direct Payments scheme and is intended to enable this young man to manage his support independently. Previous experience in care work is desirable but not essential. Training can be provided as required and where available.

Must have driving licence, vehicle provided.

**Main Duties**:

- Provide support and encourage him to gain independence and enable him to interact socially within their community.
- Preparing meals and drinks and encouraging healthy eating, assisting with activities such as food shopping.
- Be actively involved in his hobbies and support him to try new activities and skills to improve his confidence and abilities to live independently.
- Perform light housekeeping tasks to ensure the house is clean and tidy.
- Distributing medication as required.
- Ensure his safety at all times during your working period and leave the home safe and accessible when finished for the day.
- Assist with personal care tasks such as washing, dressing and toileting, when needed.
- Assist with safe lifting, transferring and movement. There will be no manual lifting a hoist is used at all times.
- Provide companionship at home and engage in lively positive conversation.
- Local knowledge of activities available would be advantageous, as the hours worked could be off-site within the community.
- Maintain confidentiality on all aspects of his activities and home life are essential.
- Observe, monitor and record daily activities and report any concerns.
- To carry out any other reasonable requests that the employer may make from time to time.

**Person Specification**:

- Active and energetic.
- Fun to be around and enjoys getting involved in creative projects.
- Proactive individual with local knowledge and willing to go on unexpected road trips (in personal car or public transport).
- A good sense of humour.
- Able to prepare and cook meals.
- Caring, honest, responsible, and patient.
- Reliable with good timekeeping.
- Able to use own initiative and be self-motivated.
- Able to maintain confidentiality and be aware of privacy.
- An ability to develop and maintain a supportive relationship.
- Good communication and interpersonal skills.
- A full driving license is required, a vehicle is provided for use within the role.
