About the role

We’re looking to recruit a full-time Housing Options Advisor, on an initial 12-month fixed term contract, to provide support and early intervention to households identified as being a possible future risk of homelessness, through the innovation of our OneView platform.

OneView is a predicative analytics tool which uses a range of internal and external data sets to alert to the Council households who may be at on a trajectory towards homelessness.

Taking a supportive and empathic approach you will work with those households identified to offer support to review their housing circumstances and support them in areas including, to tackle rent and/or council tax arrears; maximise income through help to claim any unclaimed benefit entitlement; explore ways to decrease expenditure; access other relevant support through referrals to voluntarily and statutory partner agencies.

You will be working alongside colleagues in the Housing Options Team responsible for the prevention and relief of homelessness under the Council’s Part VII (Housing Act 1996) duties; housing allocations and letting, temporary accommodation and our rough sleeper initiative programme.

**About you**:
You should have experience of working on the front-line in a housing options or debt advice environment and able to provide a full range of assistance that with help to prevent homelessness.

Educated to A Level (or equivalent) at grades A to C, or equivalent grading, or demonstrable experience of working within housing options and homelessness.

Good understanding of Housing legislation including Part VII of the Housing Act 1996 (as amended) and of the welfare benefit system.

Excellent communication, influencing and negotiation skills.

Ability to work in a team and develop effective and supportive relationships with colleagues.
