**DYW School Coordinator**

**Background**

**Developing the Young Workforce (DYW)**

Developing the Young Workforce is a Scottish Government scheme which aims to help young people connect with the world of work. This is mainly done through identifying and working with employers to find opportunities, introducing them into the school curriculum so that the young people understand the opportunities that are available across a range of industries within their region.

**The School coordinator role**

The School Co-ordinators are connected to a school and will spend much of their time based in that school to ensure that the programme is delivered to the highest possible standard.

DYW Inverness and Central Highland (DYW ICH) support 14 schools within the Highland Council region. The School Co-ordinators work a mix of hours and depending on the size of the school may support more than one school. While most of their time is spent within their designated schools there will also be time spent working with the full team, developing central initiatives and sometimes working in partnership to deliver to many schools at once.

**DYW Inverness and Central Highland (DYW ICH)**

The team is led by a Programme Manager who has overall responsibility for delivering the programme. Within the central team there is also an Employer Engagement Manager who leads on working with employers and an Operations Manager who is the day to day line manager for the Schools Co-ordinators.

**Inverness Chamber of Commerce (ICC)**

The programme is hosted by Inverness Chamber of Commerce who are one of the regions main business support organisations. All DYW ICH staff are employed by ICC and there is a growing synergy between DYW ICH and ICC.

**DYW ICH Employer Board**

The DYC ICH Employer Board are a group of private and public sector employers who come together on a regular basis to give advice to DYW ICH that helps ensure the programme is delivering opportunities that are relevant to local employers.

**Job Title**: DYW School Coordinator

**Salary**: £20,093 28 hours p.w. (school term time only). Part time salary will be pro-rated

**Number of roles**: 1 (job share will be considered)

**Location(s)**:Secondary schools within the Inverness and Central Highland area. Current schools seeking a School Coordinator includes; Fortrose Academy and Glen Urquhart High School.

**Contract**:28 hours per week, Monday to Friday - days negotiable

School Term Time only with salary paid over 12 months of the year. There is sometimes the opportunity for additional hours to be worked during the school holidays which will be paid.

The DYW School Coordinator reports to the DYWICH Operations Manager.

Responsible for:
No line management responsibility.

**Overall Purpose of the Post**:
The purpose of the role is to use your industry background and knowledge to develop and implement a programme of employer engagement aimed at enhancing the school curriculum and increasing pupils’ career awareness and skills development in order to support a positive and sustained destination for young people beyond school.

**Key Responsibilities**

Employer Engagement
- Foster and establish partnerships with businesses, other learning providers e.g. colleges, and third sector organisations that can enhance and impact on curriculum delivery and design.
- Increase the number of businesses working directly with the school to improve opportunities for young people.
- Work alongside the regional DYW group to ensure that support is targeted at groups aligned to DYW KPIs.
- Work alongside Teachers, SDS Careers Advisor, MCR Pathways Coordinators (where applicable) and wider relevant partners to ensure that employer offers are targeted at the pupils who would benefit most.
- Work with key local partners and stakeholders to provide industry-led activity which will support pupils post school transition and raise awareness of Yong Person Guarantee services.
- Ensure that DYW is appropriately highlighted and embedded across each stage of the curriculum in the senior phase, across broad general education and at points of key transition. Utilise available data to ensure employer engagement interactions are aligned and informed by pupils’ preferred occupation, route and anticipated leave date, whilst working to support an enhanced awareness of the current and emerging labour market growth and demand sectors across the region and nationally.

Partnerships and networks
- Liaise with the School’s Senior Leadership Team, Curriculum Leads and other relevant staff to ensure strategic direction of the DYW agenda is reflected within the curriculum.
- Support teaching staff by identifying meaningful industry relevant experiences and qualifications by facilitating appropriate and relevant partnerships.
