The Public Sector team at Macildowie is excited to partner with a commercial and forward thinking East Midlands based Local Authority in their drive to recruitment an Accountant to join the team.

Base in a convenient location, with great transport links this role will support the Head of Finance and Senior Accountants in providing a modern, responsive and dynamic financial service to the organisation that will develop and embed the commercial cultureacross teams and provide accurate and timely financial information to support qualitative decision making.

**The key duties are**:
- To take responsibility for the completion of allocated tasks in the closure of the revenue and capital accounts and the production of the Statement of Accounts in accordance with current accounting requirements and statutory deadlines for the council andassociated legal entities.
- Produce accurate, well-presented and timely information working papers to support the external audit process.
- Work alongside service areas to produce revenue and capital budgets, accurate and timely budget forecasts recognising the financial impact that these processes have on the Medium Term Financial Strategy.
- Provide treasury management services as required on ad hoc basis.
- Provide VAT services including the submission of monthly returns
- To work alongside service areas in order to develop and support robust budget monitoring and forecasting processes to support the day to day operational and strategic management of the business.
- To manage the finance relationship across all service areas
- Ensure that service areas understand the importance of the management of financial resources, promoting probity, efficiency, high performance and overall value for money
- Provide accurate financial information that offers information to enable sound decision making of a commercial nature including monthly trading accounts for identified areas of the business.
- To work with Senior Accountants to development of a 'real time' approach to financial management.
- Play a key role in strengthening and maintaining the quality and flow of information between Financial Services and Service Areas.
- Monitor and forecast financial and non-financial performance with budget managers to identify emerging resource issues and ensure that these are escalated to senior management;
- To provide mentoring support to the Trainee Accountant and Finance Assistants to ensure their skills are developed to enable them to provide support to both finance and service areas across the council.
- Work with service areas to identify new or different sources of funding (e.g. borrowing, grants, private investments) to support the effective delivery of the Council's ambitions.
**Key requirements**:
- Either AAT Qualified or part qualified with at least 5 years of experience in an accountancy environment ideally within public sector;
- Is proficient in the use of financial systems, Excel and Microsoft Teams and is able to work independently with mínimal supervision;
- Is a team worker with a positive attitude excellent communication and presentation skills and ability to deliver towards tight deadlines

For the foreseeable future this role will be based on site 2 days a week and allow home working 3 days a week.
