A classroom-based teaching assistant is required ASAP to join our school. This post would most likely be working with children in Key Stage 2 on interventions and supporting the class teacher.

This is a full-time position, working Monday to Friday from 08.30-15.00pm. The pay grade is Grade 4 point 4-5 pro rata (FT equiv of £21,189-£21,575).

Teaching Assistant Job Description

Duties

This job description describes in general terms the normal duties which the post-holder will be expected to undertake. However, the job or duties described may vary or be amended from time to time without changing the level of responsibility associated with the post.

Teaching and Learning
- Assist in the educational and social development of pupils under the direction and guidance of the head teacher, deputy head teacher, team leader and class teachers.
- Communicate effectively and sensitively with pupils to support their learning
- Work with other professionals from outside agencies (speech therapists etc) as necessary
- Support children with emotional or behavioural problems and help develop their social skills
- Plan activities for key children and monitor their progress through observations and written assessments
- Work with individuals, groups under the supervision and direction of the teacher
- Organise and manage resources safely
- To implement agreed programmes of work for individual children

Administrative Duties
- Prepare and present displays of children’s work
- Support class teachers in photocopying and other tasks that support teaching
- Undertake other duties from time to time as required

Monitoring and Assessment
- Assist class teachers in evaluating pupil’s progress
- Monitor children’s responses to learning tasks, participation and progress
- Record children’s responses to tasks
- Assist class teachers with maintaining children’s records

General
- Promote equal opportunities for all children
- Support the aims and ethos of the school
- Attend meetings when appropriate
- Be proactive in matters relating to health and safety
- Be committed to continuing professional development and seek opportunities for enhancing skills and knowledge.
