The role of Healthcare Support Worker is a diverse and exciting one which involves day to day delivery of a high standard of support to the physical health nursing team. You will be integral to supporting staff delivering nursing care to a population with a comprehensive range of physical, psychological, substance misuse and social problems whilst maintaining a high level of awareness and compliance with security procedures within a prison setting.

The post holder will be expected to undertake safeguarding training (Children and Adults) appropriate to their role and adhere to policies and procedures relevant to the area they work in.

Our multi-disciplinary teams provide healthcare services to some of the most vulnerable people in our society, from diverse backgrounds, who present a full range of general, mental health and recovery concerns.

The role involves assisting Registered Nurses, ensuring the environment is safe, clean and comfortable for patient care and to contribute to the physical, emotional and spiritual needs of patients.

The post holder will be encouraged and supported to develop skills and knowledge to support the patient journey from reception into the prison through to their discharge through the gate. This includes first reception screening, providing agreed care packages, undertaking physical health observations, facilitating clinics for primary care such as phlebotomy clinics, ECG clinics and NHS health checks, sexual health, health promotion and supporting annual reviews for long term conditions and first level triage of minor injuries.

The post holder will also be expected to work as part of the emergency response team as required. You will be encouraged and supported to develop your skills and knowledge in order to lead a variety of supportive services, such as smoking cessation, venepuncture and NHS health checks.
