**Salary: Salary is set at the Real Living Wage (April 2024 - March 2025) of £12 per hour with a review in-line with the Real Living Wage Foundation to be implemented in the April of each year**

**Hours of work: 37 hours per week**

**Location: Home based with regular travel across Flintshire and Wrexham, with the requirement to work from the Council Offices and Vision Support offices on occasion**

Following our successful bid for the Wrexham and Flintshire County Council tenders, Vision Support is seeking to recruit a trainee Vision Rehabilitation Specialist to join our established and committed team.

**Job Purpose**

Vision Rehabilitation Specialists (VRSs) provide an essential service to identify, deliver and evaluate professional rehabilitation interventions to vision impaired people to enhance their skills and confidence and maximise their independence.

VRSs act as an advocate for vision impaired people and the organisation to help promote accessible services, equality, social integration and understanding of sight loss.

**Key Responsibilities**

As a trainee VRS, you will be mentored and supervised by a qualified VRS to enable you to carry out the following tasks when you complete the qualification:

- **Assessment**

To undertake specialist vision impairment assessments, with the vision impaired person, to identify their needs and aspirations to promote independent living.
- **Rehabilitation and service provision**

To plan, implement, evaluate and review rehabilitative services to the individual aimed at maximising independence, safety, dignity and choice. Rehabilitation may include but not be restricted to daily living skills, communication skills, mobility training (indoors and outdoors), low vision training/therapy and providing emotional support to the individual, their loved ones and carers.
- **Reporting and administration**

To submit detailed reports for each individual on the Social Services databases; and supply anonymised records to Vision Support for reporting purposes.

**Person Specification**

A commitment to complete a Diploma in Higher Education/Foundation Degree in Rehabilitation Studies (Visual Impairment) essential. This will be funded by Vision Support and accompanied by a requirement to stay with the organisation for a minimum of 2 years post-qualification.

The ability to attend Birmingham City University (BCU) in person for a week at a time, approximately every 6-8 weeks (reasonable expenses will be paid).

Be a fluent Welsh speaker.

Ability to travel and work in all areas of Flintshire and Wrexham.

The ability to build trust and confidence in other people; and be calm and deal sensitively with people and be open minded to all cultures and ways of life.

Exceptional communication skills.

The ability to prioritise case load and organise time.

The ability to work independently as well as part of a team; and be willing to work flexibly (outlook, work hours, work location).

The ability to assess risk and support people to take managed risks appropriately.

The ability to develop positive working relationships with other professionals, both internally and externally.

Have a collaborative and solution focussed approach to work.

A willingness to register with the professional body RWPN.

Good IT skills, personal presentation skills, and oral/written communication skills.

**Additional information**

A successful completion of an Enhanced DBS check is required for this post (costs will be met by Vision Support).

**Successful applicants will be required to remain working at Vision Support for a minimum of 2 years post qualifying and will be required to enter into a contract committing to this.**
