Overview Of RoleThe Horticultural and Controlled Environments section are recruiting a Senior Horticulturist for our Harpenden site to provide outstanding horticultural and technical support to our science community.

The post-holder is responsible for the daily watering, horticultural care, and pest and disease management of research plant material to a high standard, ensuring that the diverse facilities on offer are clean, tidy, well-stocked and running at their optimal potential.

The post holder will manage a small team and liaise with our research community to fulfil their requirements.

The role requires the ability to working to deadlines, hold intermediate IT skills and PA1 and PA6 pesticide licence as well as, experience managing a computerised glasshouse control system and knowledge of the technical capabilities of a controlled environment plant growth chamber. Though not essential, experience of forklift and tractor operation would be an advantage.

The position is initially recruited on a fixed term contract for 3-years and has a salary ranging from £24,225 - £26,573 per annum for a 37-hours week.

In addition to these hours the post holder is required to join the paid out-of-hours rota, typically 1-in-5 weekends to provide a watering service during weekends, bank holidays and other site closures to the Institutes research community. This will be paid in line with Rothamsted Research overtime payment schedule.
