Serco are currently recruiting for a HGV Mechanic for the International Fire Training Centre (IFTC) based at Teeside International Airport in Darlington. As our HGV Mechanic, you will be responsible for ensuring the IFTC fleet is maintained whilst always adhering to procedures and processes. You will report into the Head of Compliance & Technical Services and work alongside other mechanicals to ensure the efficient day-to-day running of the fleet.

The International Fire Training Centre (IFTC) is a world-renowned organisation that provides critical training to fire and rescure personnel across the globe to over 10,000 firefighters each year. IFTC has offered this expertise and infrastructure since 1981, with the capability to support fire teams in the aviation, industrial, offshore, marine and civil defence sectors. They have over 25 training simulators to guarantee fresh, challenging and scalable exercises for recruits and experienced leaders.

**Main responsibilities of the role include**:
Undertaking maintenance and repair work directly on all vehicles within the fleet.
Carrying out preventative maintenance and routine servicing in accordance with VOSA and manufacturers recommendations.
Reporting defects or concerns to management.
Troubleshooting and fault find any defects on machines and carry out repairs as necessary.
Carrying out inspections and repairs.
Working with other departments within Technical Services to carry out in-house repairs to fire training rigs.

**What you'll need to do the role**:
We are looking for a time-served HGV Mechanic with in-depth knowledge of LGV/HGV's.
NVQ level 3 or equivalent in heavy vehicle service, maintenance, and repair.
Experience working with several different chassis.
Working knowledge of health and safety procedures and regulations (e.g. COSHH).
Professional and positive attitude towards work.
Ability to work under pressure, meet deadlines and prioritise workload.
Experience working on Fire Appliances (desirable).
HGV Class 1 licence (desirable).
Experience of basic welding (desirable)
