We are looking for an enthusiastic and experienced clinician who has experience and expertise working with complex cases within the area of adult mental health, to join an established, skilled and relatively large North Area Psychological Services team. Applications are invited for a full time (1.0 WTE) Band 8a Principal Psychologist. We will also consider applicants who are looking for a Band 7 post, with potential for preceptorship to Band 8a.

The range of psychologically focused therapies we deliver include Dialectical Behaviour Therapy (DBT), Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT), Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), Mindfulness Based Cognitive Therapy (MBCT), Cognitive Analytic Therapy (CAT), Compassion Focused Therapy (CFT), and EMDR. We are fortunate that the post holder will join a psychologically minded multidisciplinary team to support the recovery of adults with severe and enduring mental health difficulties. As a team, we are committed to working with and supporting the wider team to develop and implement their psychological skills.

We are looking for someone with a specific interest in working with adults with severe and enduring mental health difficulties. You will need to be keen to work flexibly within an MDT, and have well developed interpersonal skills. The post holder will be supervised and managed by a senior clinical psychologist and will be based in the Basingstoke Community Mental Health Team (CMHT). We would like the post holder to provide specialist psychological assessment and therapy individually and through group programmes as well as offering advice, consultation and training to staff in the team. Evaluation of interventions and the impact of the service in terms of benefit to clients is an important component of what we strive to do.

We are keen to help our staff progress and gain a broad range of experiences. The post holder will be part of the wider North Area psychological therapies team, a thriving, active team with links to Southampton University, including the doctoral programme in clinical psychology. Opportunities for research and development within the post will be actively encouraged. We are keen to support training to increase your therapeutic skills and develop your leadership skills. This will be incorporated within your appraisal and supervision.

Eligible applicants must be registered with the Health Professions Council (HPC) or eligible for registration at the point of taking up the post if successful.
