The role of the Data Engineer is to be responsible for primary data focused tasks on the data platform.

**Core Accountabilities**
- Responsible for primary data focused build tasks on the data platform such as the ingestion and modelling of data
- Transforming of high level design and data models (from Data Engineering Solution Lead) into detailed designs
- Producing documentation for solutions
- Facilitating handover of completed developments to platform support team
- Provision of 3rd line support and issue resolution, including hypercare of recently released products

**Outputs / Deliverables**
- Design, build, test and maintain data management systems making sure they meet business requirements and user needs
- Deliver services that are automated, reliable and secure
- Working closely with Date Engineering Solution Lead, Data Architect, Data Scientists and relevant service users
- Recommend ways to improve data efficiency and reliability
- Provide ongoing support and problem resolution for completed developments
- Using sound judgement, evidence and knowledge to arrive at accurate, expert and professional decisions and advice
- Seeking out and implementing solutions that achieve best mix of quality and effectiveness for least outlay
- Is aware of the need to translate technical concepts into non-technical language and understands what communication is required to internal and external stakeholders
- Undertakes data profiling and source system analysis and can present clear insights to colleagues to support the end use of the data
- Designs, builds and tests data products based on feeds from multiple systems using a range of different storage technologies and/or access methods. Creates repeatable and reusable products
- Delivers data solutions in accordance with agreed organisational standards that ensure services are resilient, scalable and future-proof
- Understands the concepts and principles of data modelling and is able to produce, maintain and update relevant data models for specific business needs. Reverse engineers data models from a live system.
- Designs, codes, tests, corrects and documents simple programs or scripts under the direction of others.
- Correctly executes test scripts under supervision. Understands the role of testing and how it works.
- Aware of opportunities for innovation with new tools and uses of data
- Works with metadata repositories to complete complex tasks such as data and systems integration impact analysis.
- Maintains a repository to ensure information remains accurate and up to date
- Aware of the types of problems in databases, data processes, data products and services
