Prototype Engineer

We are seeking a highly motivated individual to oversee the production of our Prototype Manufacture department. To support the Research and Development department and Production machine shop activities.
Precision and CNC machining industry. A combination of a strong background in supervisory experience and machining techniques would be an advantage.
**Key Responsibilities**
- Supervise the Model shop team, developing and executing the manufacturing plan to achieve project/company timing and cost targets.
- Development of lead-time and cost reductions in line with KPI target.
- Ensure company Health & safety best practices are complied with and constantly
- Project lead S.M.E.D. Activities
- Complete compliance with ISO- 9001, 14001, 45001, 50001.
- Organise and manage the manufacture of lighting fixture prototypes using various materials and methods to provide fully working prototype models throughtout the product creation process.
- Responsibility for ordering raw materials abd workshop consumables.
- Discuss & work closely with R&D team & suppliers for project requirements, help develop concept/prototype products considering technical and aesthetics before manufacturing. Ideas may be presented as drawings, 3D CAD models or components that need to bemodified.
- Assist in the design and commissioning of fixture and tooling necessary for production of new components.
- Assist with the management and planning of production/workload in accordance with business priorities.
- Discuss and agree the plan for the best method to producing new components taking health and safety as a priority. Ensuring the optimum materials and manufacturing best practices are used to manufacture.
- Work within project timescales and NPD process requirements to ensure that prototypes are delivered in timely manner in accordance with briefing requirements.
- Constructing and providing CNC programmes for Phototype components person specification and background.
**Person Specification**
- Ability to use 3D CAD, write programs for CNC machines to enable the newly designed components to be produced accurately and safely, taking into consideration surface finishes and presentation faces.
- Commitment to continuous improvement and investingating new manufacturing processes to achieve cost, quality and delivery objectives.
- Ability and willingness to support the sourcing and planning departments with regards to machining and tolerance questions from suppliers.
- Collaborate with the quality team concerning component inspection related questions.
- Strong knowledge of the equipment within a machine shop, experience of manufacturing precision parts to tight tolerances on CNC machines, lathes and millers.
- CAD experience is preferred.
- A good knowledge of appropriate cutting data for machining a variety of materials Including stainless steel, carbon steel, high alloy steel, aluminium and brass.
- The ability to program both driven Y, C axis lathes and more essentially horizontal and vertical milling machine centres.
- Willingness to keep knowledge of latest machinery, processes and technologies up to date and an awareness of the lighting industries latest trends.
- A demonstrable experience in leadership for managing a team.
