**Job description**

The purpose of this role is to grow our work in our community whilst developing a deepening sense of community inside our church family too. This role is all about people, caring for them, responding to needs and seeking to grow existing partnerships and relationships with those in the parish whilst developing new projects and partnerships too. Our parish is changing but deprivation and isolation continue to be a real and active challenge for many. As our community pastor you will pioneer projects responding to needs in our communities. As a church we want to be innovative, cooperative and sustainable in the solutions we offer. You will also work as a bridge builder making it easier for those on the outside of church to come in, feel welcomed and become part of our church family. You will have a key role in ensuring those who are welcomed also become part of our growing church family too plating an active role in our discipleship and evangelistic structures and programs. Our love of Jesus will drive our church’s call to social action and in making new relationships and contacts with those in our community it is our hope that we would see many not only come to know us as a church, but also Jesus Christ. You will also help grow our church family too running projects that foster a sense of fellowship and community whilst also thinking about how we can care for those who find it harder to access our services.

**Responsibilities**:
Leadership:

- Contributing as a staff member and a key leader to the Vision of the Church in how we serve the needs of our parish.
- Taking an active role in church life.
- Take the lead role and responsibility for community initiatives and projects
- To play an active role in hosting at least one of our church connect groups.
- Take oversight of recruiting, training, and supporting an effective volunteer team to serve the practical needs in whatever way they can, of our community.
- Playing an active role in the leading of worship services.
- Alongside the Safeguarding Officer, ensure safeguarding requirements are fulfilled.

**Community Work**:

- Continually assess the needs of the local area and identifying opportunities for the church to intervene and serve in the name of Jesus.
- Act as a point of contact for any relevant external charitable organizations and partnerships.
- To initiate new projects and maintain those in existence to meet the needs of our community.
- Take an active role in encouraging our Vision to see every church member engaged on their front lines, serving and practically supporting those they are in contact with.
- Encourage church members to see community action as part of their discipleship and not an optional add on to their faith.
- Be a point of contact for and have an awareness of those new to church life particularly who have come through outreach projects in the community.
- Be an advocate for the church in the community.
- Seek to foster a growing sense of community and fellowship within our church community
- Actively engage with other roles in Church to see joint projects and initiatives started and maintained.
- Be active as required in existing church projects with people of all ages from 0 to 100.

**Person Specification**:
**Skills, Experience & Qualifications**:
**Essential**:

- Experience in leading community work particularly in an area of deprivation.
- Experience in leading/ coordinating projects in the community.
- An ability to be able to build and maintain healthy volunteer teams.
- A good listener who has the ability to relate to a wide range of people.
- A track record of being able to build healthy relationships.
- Ability to sell a vision to others to encourage them to join in these community projects.
- Ability to advocate for the church and the community in developing new partnership with local stake holders.
- Has a passion for social action as a means to grow the presence of St Luke’s church in it’s parish which in turn grows the church.
- A practicing Christian

**Desirable**:

- Familiarity with Christian organizations working in areas of deprivation and need such as Trussell Trust or CAP.
- A desire to serve the Church in the Diocese of Chelmsford and passionate about enabling church growth.
- To have a knowledge and understanding of the Church of England, it’s values, structure and processes.
- Be passionate about church growth and seeing everyone serving and playing their part in it.
- Experience of running or being part of a small group.
- Leading a bible study
