The post holder provides specialist expertise in the fields of EBME Internal and CERL based healthcare. The post holder has management responsibility for the technical support provided by EBME Internal & CERL section. The post holder is expected to carry out calibration, maintenance and repair of a highly complex range of medical electronic equipment from departments and wards throughout the Trust and other healthcare locations. The majority of their work will be complex, requiring a high degree of individual skill. They will liaise closely with senior staff in the Medical Physics & Clinical Engineering Department and with clinical users of the service. They will be expected to optimise the services they provide, ensure that the high skill levels required are deployed in a cost effective manner. They will be involved in training, and an administrative content within their work in line with Resource Management arrangements. When required, support will be available at any time from the Medical Physics & Clinical Engineering Department.

They will be based in the EBME Internal & CERL section of the Medical Physics and Clinical Engineering Department. They may also be required to provide maximum flexibility. They will participate in the delivery of a comprehensive medical device service program which will include work under contract or service level agreement. This will include working to an established planned preventative maintenance programme for medical equipment.

The post holder will be expected to work to high standards and to a high skill level, ensuring that equipment operates safely with a minimum downtime. It will be important to establish and maintain effective professional links with clinical users of the technical service.

The work will include duties on all Trust sites and other locations where the Medical Physics Department has an agreed commitment to provide a service, including work under contract or service level agreement.

The clinically based technologist will provide the necessary support to medical and nursing staff where technology and complex techniques are being used.

The service will normally be provided over 7 days per week, standard being 37.5 hours over 5 days with on call, which may involve working unsocial/additional hours as necessary with the post holder expected to demonstrate flexibility and a willingness to negotiate flexible working hours as appropriate.

The post holder will be expected to be available for an on-call rota providing technical support for pressure relieving mattress and hospital bed products across various locations.

They should have properly insured personal transport available. This will be a four-wheeled vehicle.

To be managerially and technically responsible to the Operational Manager in the area assigned for all ongoing managerial, administrative and professional matters.

To be professionally accountable for matters that affect the calibration, servicing and maintenance of medical electronic equipment to the Operational Manager in the area assigned.

To manage the technical services in the EBME Internal & CERL section and to ensure that these services are provided in accordance with the requirements and practices specified by wards and departments.

To maintain strong professional links with the Consultant Physicist (Diagnostic) ensuring that the calibration, etc. of physiotherapy ultrasound equipment is maintained within agreed parameters.

To be responsible for the management of all EBME Internal & CERL section technologists for matters associated with training, appraisal (CPD), monitoring of budgets, first line for - HR, sickness, annual leave, any required on-call, overtime, timesheets, etc. so that there is continuity of service, and to ensure that these arrangements are brought to the attention of the Operational Manager.
