**Job description**:
**About the Group**

The **Economics Group** leads HM Treasury’s analysis of developments in the UK economy and advises ministers on the implications for the Government’s economic strategy. It provides expert economic analysis and advice for Ministers. The Group’s data hub is transforming how the Treasury uses data across its entire business. The Group collaborates with external experts on the UK economy, including the Bank of England, Office for Budget Responsibility and leading academics. Economics Group provides support for the UK Government’s economics and social research professions, including running centralised recruitment and the annual conferences.

**About the Team**

**Economic Risks** (ER) works flexibly and collaboratively with teams across HMT and in other Departments to improve risk management best practice and build modelling and analytical capabilities that we use to influence policy and strategy in responding to a wide range of risks to the economy. Beyond systematically monitoring risks to the economy, the team plays a central role in analysing a range of macroeconomic risks including climate change. The team leads on the Group’s input to the Covid Inquiry, and is co-secretariat for the Economic Risks Group and the Climate Analytical Sub-Board. Economic Risks is a friendly team, which values having an inclusive culture. Flexible working practices are encouraged.

**About the Job**

The core of this role will be working on Economic Group’s economic risks management and strategy, which involves preparing for and responding to emerging economic risks. In addition, when required the post holder will be responsible for supporting Economics Group’s input into the Covid Inquiry, a high-profile issue with substantial senior engagement.

**Core responsibilities on economic risks management include**:

- Lead and drive forward the team’s management and oversight of risks to the economy. Be the responsible secretariat lead for the Economic Risks Group (co-run with Financial Stability Group), which reports directly to the department’s Executive Management Board, and drive forward our agenda for the Economic Risks Group’s risks management protocols and governance.
- Continually seek to improve governance and protocols of the team in managing risks in line with wider departmental governance practices.
- Build a good relationship with other risk leads and analytical stakeholders across Whitehall, to horizon scan for new emerging risks to the economy (including risks that are non-economic in nature), and to support the unit in setting direction for programmes of work in responding to emerging risks.
- Ensure that key economic issues and risks are communicated in a timely and strategic way to senior officials and ministers, and economic evidence and advice is influential in underpinning policymaking.
