RAL Space contributes to STFC’s purpose of understanding the Universe through supporting space missions that study everything from the Earth’s surface to distant galaxies. We build, test and calibrate instruments to go into space, we command instruments that are in orbit, we collect, store and analyse the data from space missions, and we conduct research in space science and technology. We have more than 50 years’ experience on space programmes, contributing to more than 200 space missions.

We deliver all this through a diverse portfolio of projects and the RAL Space Portfolio Management Office (PMO) is a growing team with responsibility for supporting these projects and for providing senior management with insight into the status of the project portfolio. We are seeking to appoint a Configuration and Document Management (CADM) Officer to the PMO to provide support to projects in the department's portfolio.

**Role Responsibilities**
- Acting as a Configuration and Documentation management expert within the RAL Space PMO, supporting project Configuration Management processes and tools.
- Supporting the development, implementation and maintenance of standard configuration control methods and procedures, consistent with applicable standards/requirements.
- Contribute to the establishment, maintenance and monitoring of project CADM plans
- Act as secretary to Configuration Control Boards (CCBs) for the disposition of Request for Waiver (RFWs), Request for Deviation (RFDs) and configuration change requests / proposals.
- Registration and distribution to relevant reviewers of Change Requests, Contract Change Notices, Requests for Deviation/Waivers.
- Support the setting up and coordination of Project Reviews to ensure the availability of the data package and managing review responses using the Eclipse eRID module.
- Provide status data and maintaining a well-structured configuration record system.
- Supporting the exchange of project documents between RAL Space and partner organisations.
- Liaise with partner’s CADM officers and documentalist for exchanging data and resolving documentation and configuration related issues.

**Person Specification**:

- Honours degree or equivalent qualification (S)
- Proficient with MS Office packages. (S&I)
- Proficient with the ECLIPSE tool suite, particularly the DCCM and eRID functionality. (S&I)
- Knowledge of ESA ECSS standards relating to configuration management. (S&I)
- Excellent planning and organisation skills and attention to detail. (I)
- Good communication skills and the ability to work both autonomously and as part of a team. (S&I)
- Initiative, positive attitude and motivation to perform to high standards in a demanding environment. (I)
- Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with external parties. (S&I)
- Experience with ESA projects in fields such as Product Assurance, System Engineering and/or Project Control. (S&I)
