**Job overview**:
The post holder will:

- Assume operational leadership for ultrasound services across the Trust, in line with best practice and national standards.
- Provide leadership and direct line management of the Deputy Lead Sonographer and Sonographers with Advanced Practice, including vascular and obstetrics, ensuring communication, risks and services are managed appropriately.
- Provide leadership and direct line management of the Lead Reporting Radiographers
- Have extensive knowledge and experience of managing ultrasound waiting lists and be responsible for delivery of all national standards in Ultrasound
- Lead on roster and rota management for Ultrasound services
- Lead and manage demand and capacity planning
- Ensure staff training and competency assessment is in line with CQC requirements
- Take the lead on developing new services and roles within Sonography
- Provide operational, financial, performance and quality management for the areas of responsibility
- Work as an advanced ultrasound practitioner in ultrasound imaging with significant experience and knowledge to provide and facilitate an expert level of care to patients, ensuring staff are supported with the appropriate level of expertise
- Deputise for the Head of Radiology

**Main duties of the job**:

- Act as a key member of the directorate, taking a lead role in the strategic development of the service. Consider possible new ways of working or organisational change that would improve the service delivered.
- Be the professional contact to develop services / strategies to meet local and national targets for : NHSE, NHS London, SWL ICP, Voluntary agencies and Professional bodies.
- Link with networks across the wider health community at both national and local levels to develop and plan strategies for the service
- Provide expert clinical and professional leadership and supervision for the trust.
- Lead on complex decision making within the Ultrasound department, ensuring best-practice is followed at all times
- Develop an enabling culture within the Sonography service that supports others to succeed and flourish
- Mobilise the energy and commitment of all team members and actively encourage innovation and improvement from others
- Actively promote a culture of openness, transparency and candour ensuring that any concern raised is treated seriously and dealt with promptly
- Be responsible for the overall effective day to day operational running of the ultrasound service.

- Postgraduate Diploma Ultrasound or International equivalent
- Advanced ultrasound practice qualification at master’s level or equivalent.
- HCPC/ Governing body professional registration
- Post-graduate Leadership and management qualification or equivalent relevant experience
- Budget experience

**Desirable criteria**:

- Advanced Training in obstetrics /gynaecology, MSK, general and vascular ultrasound
