**REPORTING TO**:Head of Species Management

**ROLE SUMMARY**: We are looking for an enthusiastic and energetic applicant to join the species conservation team at Pensthorpe, particularly in relation to the management, feeding, and rearing of young animals for the Curlew Headstarting Project and Corncrake Translocation Project. In addition, to assist in the day to day running of the park, including warden duties and providing information to visitors through talks and interaction.

This is fixed term contract for 4 months Monday May 1st to Friday September 1st working alongside a passionate and friendly team. The position will require a flexible working pattern of five days out of seven, and will require working during weekends, public holidays, and evenings, to meet the requirements of the post. On-site accommodation is provided and a full clean driving licence and car ownership essential.

This position offers a great opportunity to someone interested in developing their experience, knowledge and practical understanding of aviculture, species conservation and reintroductions as well as working at a nature reserve and busy visitor attraction.

Warden and Aviculture
- Assist in delivery of the Curlew Headstarting Project
- Assist in delivery of the Corncrake Translocation Project
- Implement and uphold rigorous biosecurity standards to ensure the health and safety of humans, eggs, birds and the environment.
- Assist with captive breeding and rearing of other species
- Carry out routine husbandry and environmental maintenance of captive species and their enclosures at Pensthorpe
- Monitor, record and report on the health of animals daily
- Perform cleaning and maintenance of assigned facilities
- Observe, document and report any structural or mechanical problems
- Assist in restraint and treatment of animals, under appropriate supervision
- Participate as assigned in non-routine health and husbandry activities such as animal transports, animal introductions, and the medication of specimens
- Respond to animal emergency circumstances according to approved protocols
- Maintain a high standard of overall maintenance and presentation of the site, ensuring the welfare of the collection at all times.

Visitors

1. Be an ambassador for Pensthorpe, showing exceptional standards of customer care at all time

2. Assist with presentations and special events based, for example, ‘meet the warden’ demonstrations or bird feeding

3. Take the necessary action to ensure the safety of visitors

4. Conduct warden walks and talks with visitors, as requested

5. Effectively direct customers to all parts of the attraction, including café, toilets, outdoor sites, enclosures and special interest areas

Maintenance/ Park Presentation

1. Assist with general upkeep and routine care of the park including but not limited to, pruning, strimming, mowing, fencing, bin emptying, general cleaning and tidying

2. Perform minor repairs to exhibits; interact with maintenance staff as needed and as assigned

3. Safely maintain and operate, as necessary, equipment such as strimmers, mowers, blowers, and motor vehicles as well as other tools and equipment in order to accomplish tasks.

Health & Safety / Environmental Health

1. Implement the legal obligation to maintain a safe working environment at all times

2. Follow the company’s procedures, as described in the Health & Safety Policy

3. Take active responsibility for maintaining own health & wellbeing and working within personal limits for manual handling

4. Report concerns or anything unsafe to the Head of Species, and to report accidents, near misses, and so they can be recorded in the accident book

General

1. Welcome visitor groups to Pensthorpe, when required

2. Attend work with a clean and smart appearance, wearing the appropriate attire

3. Undertake any other tasks that may be reasonably requested

4. Implement the policies and procedures set out in the Employment Handbook
